College football rosters are 100+ players.

Florida had 140 staff members and 116 players.

Yep, and I can’t remember off the top of my head but it was one of the bigger red schools (Ohio state, maybe Alabama) and it was the team picture and the staff absolutely dwarfed the players

Saw a team picture of Florida that was like that.

Defense has one specific coach (DL) and another “analyst.” Most of his hires are people he’s known thru LA or his playing days. Maybe it’s the way he runs a staff and I really don’t know what the word “analyst” means to him.

no argument

Been saying the same thing.

Yeah sorry, that sort of makes sense when you account for comms, equipment, GAs, etc.

I misinterpreted this when I read it as more "analysts" than players. That was what I was reacting to.

I know Nick Coleman. He played at MTSU when my brother played there. They were pretty good friends. I think he will do well in that spot

I like these hires and think they have high potential. Also eager to see who all is retained who fits what TD wants to do.

I think we'll see most changes after the bowl game as I think TD didn't want coaches being let go before the bowl & have that hanging over their/the teams heads. It was pretty clear not many on the offensive side would be kept. The bowl game will be the interview for those left to see if they fit in to what TD has in mind.

Very good point. These next few days are auditions.

Dilfer was a high risk choice in the first place. He's either going to work out, or he isn't. I want him to do it his way though, and it appears we've given him the green light to do so.

Based on Dilfer's interview on Jox this morning, it seems like OL is still an open position.

And some current staff members are still in the running for some positions including strength coach.

I'd like to see Lyle stay, Cam and Hindley should be no brainers to stay. On defense, I'd keep as many as I could

My concern, too. I just hope HCTD isn't underestimating the jump from HS to ACC...

Dilfer says he is one of the best coaches he has EVER been around. Considering how many coaches he has been around, I will trust his judgment here.

I understand wanting him around. Having familiarity with The Opening is huge, but I'm just worried about the lack of experience at the division 1 level. Jumping to AAC DC is a pretty big leap. Obviously hoping everything works out well. Dilfer making the talk show rounds is at least calming some nerves.

RE: Dilfer Staff - Updated with DC
I'll be honest - I'm worried about the coaching staff hires. I'm not jumping off the ledge, but if this wasn't some super charismatic and well known guy we chose as our HC who is calming our fears, we'd all be losing our minds over how little experience everyone has at the college level. This is basically an entire coaching staff with little to no real coaching experience at the D1 level. This hire definitely had the potential to crash and burn, and the coaching staff decisions only make that a bigger possibility to me. I'm not saying I think that will happen, and I am all on board with giving Coach Dilf a fair shot/all the support. However, these hires are quite alarming on the surface.

I'm still cautiously optimistic, and Coach Dilf certainly talks the talk, but the lack of experience definitely worries me.

I am drinking the Kool Aid with you guys, and I like what I've seen and heard from Coach Dilf so far.. But be objective.. If this was Charlotte that made this hire, and the coach had an entire coaching staff with minimal D1 coaching experience - we'd probably be making fun of them for it and saying they're going to crash and burn. People are really smitten with Coach Dilf, and I think that is clouding some folks judgement.

Just finished listening to the interview. Was pretty good to hear a little about some insight about his coaching and teaching philosophy.

For those who are interested you can listen here starting at 14:50

Edit: Defensive philosophy discussed at 24:56 [here]
