RE: Kent State @ Gonzaga
I'm going to put away the morale victory, we hung with them, bulls#!t and say it like it is. Gonzaga had no business winning that game tonight. We didn't close again but the refs were a major factor. On Timme's spinning hook shot to take the lead he hit Davis in the chest with a hard shoulder. That call was made all fckin night on the other end of the court. I could be letting my rage keep me from remembering one play... but I'm fairly certain the block/charge calls went 100% to Gonzaga tonight. Yes, I count no calls like the Timme one as a block/charge call going their way. Gonzaga missing 10 free throws definitely kept us in it... but the refs are to thank for them getting the chance to miss that many.
On a lighter note... hey if this basketball thing doesn't work out I think this team has a future doing some kind of Anthony Bourdain style traveling food show. South Carolina, Texas, and now Washington. We're really touring the country and getting a taste of the fine home cooking.

Our offense bogged down in crunch time. Now part of that was Gonzaga has length and d’ed up at end. I understand sin and malique are our leaders but 8 for 29 shooting isn’t going to get it done. We have offensive options outside of them so I hope the team and coaches recognize that.
Refs were not good but wasn’t 100/0 on those block charge calls. 3 or 4 of those against us were the correct call.
Very optimistic about the year. Too bad we couldn’t have gotten one or two of those Charleston, Houston, Gonzaga games though.

I agree with all of this, especially the bold. L's are L's. I am very excited about Saturday's contest and what lies ahead. If Kent State can take the lessons learned from these ballgames and apply them to the grind of conference play we should be in for an enjoyable winter. If closing out remains a problem regardless of the competition, "fill it up and I'll throw it down."

It's easy to say we didn't close. How about Gonzaga, a team that has been to Final Four's and National Championship games, that has won 4 million home games in a row won the game? That is the most battle tested team we have played in a long ass time. If going to the Kennel and playing in that atmosphere and getting a tough whistle (nobody gets a good whistle against the Zags for some reason) is frustrating for anyone on this board, well, I don't know what to say. It's not like we failed to close out Miami or Western Michigan. Lol. This was Gonzaga....at the Kennel.
No moral victories, but no reason for alarm.

I agree 100% dannyb73, except I just hope the "not closing" doesn't carry over to the conference games. I'm sure that not closing against Houston and Gonzaga is more about what those two teams managed to do than what KSU didn't. But then there's Charleston, who is no Houston or Gonzaga. Maybe there is no reason to be concerned. We'll see.
