Probably covered elsewhere but the online publication ‘The Athletic” notes that the most likely bowl destination for Rice is the New Mexico Bowl on December 17 against San Jose State, due to the team’s academic performance/graduation rates amongst the other 5 - 7 teams.

Regardless of what you think about the bowl game, the team, the Coach and/or the NCAA, I like that the fact that it is the team’s dedication to being true student athletes that made the difference on bowl eligibility.

Quite frankly, I think we should fire Bloomgren and let Julie Griswold coach the bowl game.

Would love to catch a Rice Game in Albuquerque.

It is about a 13 hour drive from Houston. Tickets range from $25 - $40. Pretty reasonable pricing.

Preach. If in ABQ, we can make Karlgaard run home a la Forrest Gump. I give him until Wichita Falls or Abilene before Mello needs to pick him up in a car

The 1997 game was great and in front of a “testy” UNM crowd.

I am sure that is possible but the New Mexico website notes that teams from CUSA and the Mountain West are scheduled to play in Albuquerque.

Lower tier bowls do "trades" from time to time.

And when the number of bowl qualifiers from a conference is not equal to the number of bowl slots that conference has, substitutions are made routinely.

Jerry Palm has Rice vs. Kansas in the First Responders Bowl (December 27 - Dallas).

I saw Baylor and Kansas play this year on a super windy day at McLane Stadium. I wasn't impressed with either team. Kansas wasn't the same squad once their stud QB got hurt (although I guess he did come back to play later in the season?). They also had a key RB get hurt midway through the season and I don't believe he returned.

That's why I personally would pick Alabama over TCU for the final playoff spot - TCU struggled to beat both teams.
