Because the fake news spent 4 years spinning multiple fake news narratives. The ONLY people with the power to undermine the credibility of the media was the media itself. All Trump did was point it out. It would have had no affect if it didnt ring true with the public. When you spend literally thousands of hours of broadcast air time spinning narratives that eventually pan out to be completely false---it turns out that your credibility gets undermined. When you claim to be an ethical unbiased arbiter of truth---yet are consistently caught blatantly taking sides and hiding facts that dont support a chosen narrative---it turns out that over time----people notice. The reality is that whole "you cant fool all the people all the time" thing really is true---even if the media apparently thinks it isnt. Much like Trump---the media has been it own worst enemy.
