RE: Toledo - Ohio MACC Thread
It was actually the lowest scoring game in the history of the Mac Championship game, and 17 points is the lowest winning score. Definitely did not anticipate anything like this—I’d hoped we’d have been able to score at will on them based on all the shootouts Ohio U had been involved in earlier this season. But OU smothered BG’s offense a week after BG scored at will on us. Maybe they just improved defensively as the season went on.

It is never a disappointment to win a championship. Just wanted to make that clear. It is the #1 goal heading into any season, and it is a reasonable one. Can’t help but to feel like this is the ceiling with Coach Candle though—a conference championship on a down year for the conference. After 7 years, you pretty much know what you’re going to get with this guy. There’s going to be talented players on both sides of the ball. There will be more wins than losses. There will be penalties. There will be head scratching play calls. There will be inexplicable losses. If you started following the team in the mid 2010’s, that probably sounds alright. Maybe even the mid-2000’s. If you’ve been around longer, you probably want more. UT was favored to win in 12 of its 13 games this year. 12-1 arguably would’ve put us in the Cotton Bowl.

That aside though, as disappointing as the past 2 weeks were, they did not prove to be costly. Without Finn’s threat to scramble, I don’t think we win yesterday. They did come out with a pretty solid game plan, penalties & that 4th down call notwithstanding. They did what they had to do. Definitely makes up for some great Rockets teams in the past who either ran into a juggernaut or had one poor showing at the worst time, costing them championships.

Such a different game when Gleeson is in. I think we still win.

The TD drive from 3rd to 4th had 17 plays! P R P RRR P RRRRR P R penalty RP

Of course a procedural penalty and some of those runs were read options. Finn had zero ints again. That's who he is. He rarely passes above his ability, he let's the system work.

Off season, who stays, who goes, who with this covid stuff behind, finally graduate and go on with life, it could be a very, very different team next year.

Hopefully one last good game for them somewhere the turf is GREEN.

CBS and Sportingnews both have MACC Champ Toledo in Southern in Montgomery for the Camelia Bowl. CBS has them against 5th place 6-6 eorgia Southern. SN against 9-3 Coastal Caroline a much more respectful choice. Payout is worthless but it's a good location for player families to go to a game. 247 has Toledo in the other high school stadium, the Frisco Bowl. I thought that was canceled?
Bleacher has us in Quicklane against Liberty. That's an interesting match. Bring money.
CFN has us at the Barstool, which of course would make sense. Against San Jose St. No one giving us a shot at a mid-level P5 so this will probably be most exposure.

Then we can go "complain" about basketball so those upset about our discussing real facts and giving opinions have something to complain about.

ESPN cancelled the Frisco Bowl.

They didn't cancel any bowl game this year. They said they weren't going to have a second Frisco Bowl, like they created last year because there would have been 2 bowl eligible teams left out of a bowl game.

You have to be happy for the team and coaches to have attained their goal and brought home another trophy for showcase.

One could make the argument that Ohio was undermanned this day, but hey, we've been there, too. That's sports. A win is a win and you take it.

Probably more than anything happy to see this win for all those here who have demonstrated their great interest and loyalty to Rocket athletics and have regularly participated in pragmatic discussion here over the years and decades, in spite of the frustrations and disappointment when things have gone badly--and then get demeaned by a few pretentious trolls who rarely contribute anything to a discussion, but only drop in a few times a year, or 18 times in 5 years, to disparage the fans who post here.

Looking forward to 2023 and more discussion about Rocket athletics.

GO ROCKETS!

TY
I miss the old days, ESPN would transfer games shown on their network to replay on ESPN3.

I see two horse-collars they got away with. At least I think they are horse-collars. The one on Stewart, he hurt his hammy. Later on Newton by number 8.
