RE: Football Offseason
Going to go ahead and risk jinxing it... But if Cooper sticks around he's got a very good chance of breaking our all time rushing record next year. He's currently in 6th needing 1177 yards to set the record. He had over 1200 yards last year and over 1300 this year. What's extremely impressive about that is IF he is able to that he'll do it 4 years removed from HS (no redshirt season) and his first year was limited to 4 games because of COVID. If he sticks around for both if his remaining years of eligibility, and stays healthy, he'll probably set the record so high none of us will ever see it challenged.

Taking a step further, if he plays two more college seasons and averages 1300 yards in those two years it would put him top 10 in college football history.

Mass transferring is the new reality. The hope for any team is that the transfers they get offset those they lose. Ball State's top RB entered the portal.

As Ball State's basketball team found out, entering the portal doesn't necessarily mean you're all leaving.

RE: Football Offseason
I'd understand if any of them wanted to jump now, but if Lewis, Schlee, Cooper, Cephas, and Walker all decide to run it back next year's team could be extremely special. The type of season that gets players and coaches noticed. The defense showed some signs of life in the second half of the season which leads me to believe the new DC knows what he's doing and given another year it could be much better. Punter and Kicker are still a problem. Bottom half of the MAC in both again.

But maybe most importantly... Our typical murderers row schedule is more of a voluntary manslaughters row next year. We may even be able to experience a close contest or two in non conference play. Can you imagine? A Kent state football team getting to practice trying to close out a close one BEFORE conference play starts?! Shoot what if we mess around and win one of them? 2 wins before conference play? No one's ever seen such a thing.

I have seen such a thing. In 1987, for example, they opened with wins over Akron (not yet in MAC) and Kansas. Of course, in 2012 there were wins over Towson and Rutgers (the Rutgers game, though, was during the MAC season). The 1973 team opened with a close win over Louisville. So, while not common, there have been occasions of closing out a close win before conference play, and two wins before conference play.

Of course, transfers had hardly been rare even before the portal. A big difference is that before players typically left after their first or second year, and more often than not to move downward.

It'll be interesting to see how many are just testing the waters. Cephas is probably gone. He's likely to get high major interest.

Sources: Kent State coach Sean Lewis is the target of Colorado's offensive coordinator search. He's the leading candidate to be Deion Sanders' first OC at Colorado.

Wow! Did not see that one coming, but kudos to him if he gets it. A lofty boost in pay I’m sure as well as right into the spotlight. Prime is a figurehead and hires the guys to handle the Xs and Os, this would be a good hire to the exciting brand he wants to put out there. He’s got HC on his resume, he could do much better in a minute after resurrecting that program and back in the hunt for a HC gig than he would here dealing with limited resources and watching your hidden gems you uncovered and nurtured gets poached by the programs that had use for them coming out of high school.

Wow, hate to see him go, but best of luck to him. That's going to be a fun team to watch. I wonder how many of our guys will be following him.

With Lewis's "be the alpha" mantra they need to start some sort of "Alpha Prime" thing.

I wonder how many coaches are going with him. He has a couple guys I could see him trying to take, but I’m also guessing Prime has all of slots handpicked and spoken for.
