I went to practices that fall and was convinced that good times were ahead because there was this energy in the air that our program was turning the corner. I know a lot lot of other posters on here felt the same way because i stood by them at the practices and sat by them at the speaking engagements.

That coaches name was Garrick McGee. I think I will just wait & see before getting too worked up either way this time around.

I too took a chair and sat at practices, attended his father/son football camp with my 8 year old, and drank the kool-aid. Heck, I still have one of those "ring the bell" ball caps I bought straight off his desk. But, looking back, McGee didn't really have much energy. It just appeared that way compared to Calloway. The excitement around McGee was because most people thought he was an amazing OC... when really the guy never performed that role, he just held the title. Petrino was the real OC. At least HCTD has "some" head coaching experience, plus all his other knowledge and experience in the game. I'm optimistic he is impressive. Saying that, I give him 2-3 years of success before he's hired away, but that sure beats firing a guy after 4 years of 4-8 and "hoping" to do better with the next hire.

We were at the intro press conference. We would have ran thru a freaking brick wall based off of that. That being said..

I am cautiously optimistic about the hire. He has a ton of football knowledge and seems to have the it factor. I also think he will draw some outside money opportunities be it NIL or otherwise. Im excited about the future and will be there as have been cheering on my Blazers

Garrick McGee never clicked for me, and I recall the exact moment he turned me off. He was introduced at a basketball game, and whoever was running the PA slapped the wrong button and that insipid, stupid "Bring 'em out" played over his words and would not stop.

He wasn't angry, he was . . . petulant, I think is the word. It was not a good look, it colored my first impression and he never overcame it. (The "M" stache didn't help.)

I was pleased that Brian Mackin fired McGee's Trustee-selected predecessor. That was an unexpectedly ballsy act. But for me, at least, it did not have the forward-looking feelings you describe.

Trent Dilfer might well implode. This happens when you take chances: Aaron Judge led MLB in home runs, but was also 7th in strikeouts. I'm still happy with the risk taken.

Thought they might do it today, but I am guessing he is very busy with a combination of recruiting and hiring a staff. I’m good with waiting.

At the press conference they said he couldn’t be there Sunday but would be at next home game. So, hopefully South Carolina.

Anyone watch "Set Apart" on Bally Sports yet? I believe it's a 2 part series on Dilfer and Lipscomb academy.

Part 1 was about him taking the job at Lipscomb and their first season. He wanted to get the community involved with the football team (since the team was terrible before he got there) and he noticed there was a spot near the outfield at one of their ballparks, so he got the with city council and school and built a amphitheater and got Sheryl Crow to do a pregame concert to get the community to come out and be involved. Crow had students at Lipscomb and was happy to do a concert for the school. The team won their first game 66-8 (7-6 final record with semifinal lost)

If he can come up with out of the box marketing (that we are lacking) and also have us competing for conference championships and playoff spots, then its a win-win. The World Games had small concerts at City Walk all day and night. Maybe it's time to start doing that for UAB games as well.

I don't see it streaming anywhere yet, but if you have Bally Sports in your TV package then you can see the schedule and watch it on TV or live online.
