What do you mean? The article he was quoted in stated that WKU, MTSU and Austin Peay were brothers at one point 05-stirthepot

RE: AUSTIN PEAY ?
Money? Unless the state of Tennessee foots a lot of the bill--- I just don't see how.

I do have some knowledge about AP in detail-- but no time to go into a long post right now.

They have a VERY aggressive AD who is from Duke and has made some excellent hires. Hopefully-- they are just just testing the waters or want to be "shovel ready" to take MT's place if they leave. Partly it could be just to make some "noise"-- like "Hey we are here-- look at us!" They want to throw their hat into the ring.

Independent? That (even IF approved) would cost even more.

More later.

What puzzles me is how many of these schools believe they can turn the WACsun into an FBS conference or just start a new FBS league out of thin air or worse-- become an FBS independent.

Not just fans either-- this was AP's AD making all these BOLD statements.

And SFA’s head coach last week. I mean, I agree. Why would they say this stuff if it wasn’t being said behind the scenes?

RE: AUSTIN PEAY ?
I'm not denying it is being "SAID" everywhere in that group of people. Discussed, hypothetically planned, and investigated. Possibilities have to be explored.

There are realities and events that limit most aspects of these discussions to the hypothetical stage.

1. The CFP board-- a private LLC company (NOT controlled by the ncaa) is NOT going to distribute any money to a new league. It also-of course- will not give them access to ITS playoff. Anti-trust action? No chance-- the CFP members represent over 130 schools which vary greatly; public, private, religious, small, large, etc., etc.-- which have in the past and continue to offer a pathway to membership through it's ten varied conferences.

2. C-USA and/or other G5 conferences will invite 2-4 FCS schools over the next 2-4 years. Of course they will pick the strongest and most ready --- leaving any cobbled together league with big dreams weak and decimated. They will sort of be "co-opted". Exhibit A-- the great asun FB failure (C-USA grabs JSU, Libery, KSU). Defense rests.

As long as some growth occurs (FCS move ups) within FBS conferences anti trust will be hard to get a favorable ruling. JMU, JSU, Sam and KSU have shown addition is possible. Dont see CUSA, SBC or MAC attracting any current FBS schools and NMSU and UTEP are the MWC only realistic options or current FBS schools so FCS is the option. AAC has too many schools already. If the PAC or any of the middle 3 then seats at the table will open again.

On the WACs ability to move, I will leave that up to whoever may have knowledge of the possibility.

AP has done great work in the last few years of growing their football program. If it continues AP could and should be considered. Geography may be their Achilles heel as it was ours for years.

AP budget is 14M

FCS Budget and Playoff wins over the past 5 years

Budget Playoff Wins
SHSU: 18M Playoff wins: 11
JSU: 20M Playoff wins: 5
KSU: 28M Playoff wins: 5
AP: 14M Playoff wins:0

You see the outlier.

The Governors won two playoff games in 2019.

RE: AUSTIN PEAY ?
Interesting. I know C-USA mentioned in an article from ‘The Athletic’ a little while back that they would probably cap the league membership at 12 if they even expanded beyond 10.

Could be APSU is reading tea leaves and is seeing that C-USA may expand and/or need to backfill in the near future, and given their unstable FCS conference situation rn w the WAC-ASUN alliance, the calculus of Peay’s AD could be to get the ball rolling now while the university has upward trending momentum to put themselves in position to make the jump in a couple years if they have a “now or never” situation emerge in FCS. Especially given that SFA may Re-enter the equation w now that their finances may be stabilized from joining the UT system.

RE: AUSTIN PEAY ?
Peay has made incredible strides compared with their program just 10 years ago.

That said, I think they've just now come into their own as a competitive FCS program. Not upper tier -- just competitive.

They're at least another 10 years away, and a whole lot more improvements, away from being FBS ready.
