A Rivalry Renewed - Scott Adamson

The Jaguars are 3-5 on the season, but outside of their recent thrashing by #66 FAU (25 pts), their losses have been close games. They have lost to #81 New Mexico by 6; #11 Alabama by 10; #30 Oklahoma by 4; and #100 Towson by 2.

Their three wins have been against the likes of Mobile, #326 Evansville, and #270 Robert Morris.

South Alabama comes in at #172, while UAB is up to #36.

KenPom has it UAB 83 - South Alabama 68.

The Jags have a lot of transfers.

#4 Isaiah Moore averages 20.3 points per game.

Moore played previously at DII Franklin Pierce.

Looking at the stats you will notice Moore is not a huge 3-point threat, as he is 1-11 so far.

Their center is 7-0/260 Kevin Samuel. Kevin played previously at TCU, where he was a starter for three years, and last year at Florida Gulf Coast.

He has only taken 8 free throws so far this season, which seems exceptionally low to me. Jemison has taken 20 and Davis has taken 30. Even so, Samuel is their major rebounder and he averages almost 12 points per game.

Moore did a lot of posting up against Alabama.

This is our final tune up before WVU, correct? Hopefully we come out and play well and have a lot of confidence before that game.

It’s been 10 years since UAB played and hosted South Alabama. UAB won 92-78 at The Bart on Dec. 8, 2012. Jordan Swing led the way with 18 points.

According to a UAB basketball expert on Twitter, UAB is 9-0 against South Alabama at The Bart.

Would have loved to have a 2:00 pm game time instead of 1:00, just to try to get some lunch after church. But I will bust it to make it. Might have to eat one of those new Bartow arena burgers, or lots of popcorn, for an after-game lunch.

The burgers are on par with Legion dogs. Avoid!

The pizza is surprisingly good, but not available at all the stands.

I agree that the pizza is good.

Any closer parking than the 12th avenue deck across from Collat?

I liked the burgers, buns are good, and I thought the pizza was the worst I had ever had.

I’m not sure what we are yet this season. We have lived off of transfers for a couple years now. It takes time for the team to gel and start playing well together.

That and our shooting has not been good. Wish I could be there to cheer on my Jags, but hope it’s a good game either way.

I really miss this series. I have fond memories of a couple road trips to Mobile to watch the teams play
