Are you serious? Do you have any idea how difficult scheduling has become? Proximity and time zone goes contrary to the idea of being able to find opponents not to mention most people prefer or at least like the idea of facing opposition from different conferences and parts of the country. Not only is that variety a positive, some trips are a reward of sorts for players who may never have been to a certain state or location. What's the point? Please list any of the "D1 schools in Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin" who would automatically welcome NIU on their schedule if they're factoring in strength of schedule.

There's something like 350 D1 schools. It's that hard to find 10 non-conference games?!?

Surely they could have found a non-conference opponent closer than Idaho. It didn't make sense when we played Idaho in football and makes less sense in basketball with so many more options.

11 of 23 (47.8%) against LIU
10 of 26 (38.5%) against UNI
14 of 25 (56%) against EIU

That was 35 of 74 (47.3%)over the last 3 games.

So, it was a little more than just a ton of 3s vs EIU.

3 of 14 (21.4%) against Idaho
4 of 20 (20.0%) against SHSU
5-24 (20.8%) against GT.

Yeah, a ton of 3s vs EIU, 42 FG points from 3s, 30 points FG from inside the arc.
If you can't make 30% of 3s, your 3 point shooting is a net negative, i.e. the other team is scoring more points off your 3 point shooting than you are.
And yeah, ya probably should be shooting better against bad teams than good teams.

No. Coming home for Finals and then flying back late next week.

It is all about the Benjamins. Idaho was a buy game. $100,000+ Does it now make sense to those who have no clue about the intricacies of scheduling?

RE: MBB @ Idaho
I am sure they took this game because they were looking for a buy in game that they thought they might be able to steal a win. Yes, they could have taken a closer buy-in game and get their brains beaten in. But I think they were looking to gets some wins so this young team does not feel like Chicago State after their OOC schedule ends.

They had to go to Idaho to find a school that will pay them and be able to beat. There aren't to many of those schools that fit those requirements. I think the game against Northern Iowa was the same thing.

IIRC, this game was part of either a home and home deal or a 2 and 1 deal with 2 games there and 1 game in DeKalb.

Idaho was a buy game the same as Gonzaga.
Northern Iowa was owed that game as they played here before Covid and NIU couldn't return that game right away.
And, that's a fact.
NU and VCU are or were buy games and Indiana State is also a return game owed from a couple of seasons ago.

The Indiana State game is truly a return game from last season that was supposed to be played in DeKalb but was cancelled due to Covid restrictions.

Please talk with Division I coaches and administrators and find out that scheduling is not as easy as you would like to believe.
Some scheduling is done for money, some is a result of hoping to most likely get a win, some is hoping to appeal to turning out fans, some is just what happens to fit your calendar and the other school's calendar before or after considering finals or the start of conference play.
Granted Monty found closer teams (Aurora, Judson, St. Joseph's (IN), Roosevelt, Rockford, Eureka, Indiana-Northwest, Olivet Nazarane, Illinois Tech, St. Francis (IL), Chicago State, etc.) and most folks on here had no interest in watching those match-ups.

Kent State was the better team tonight should’ve won. This isn’t the powerhouse Gonzaga team of the past not sure that they will even win their conference.

No they are not and have played much worse than the pre-season expectations had for them.

With that said, we still don't have a chance.

Drew Timmie will foul it probably 2-3 Huskies trying to guard him. If Huskies can make 14 three pointers again they may win.
