Not the biggest Matt McDonald fan here, but hard to see what Irons at Akron did with only 1 win (he didn't play in the win over NIU) that were better than McDonald to warrant the 3rd team.

McDonald threw 22 TD passes to Irons 10 with only 1 more interception (8-7).
Slightly more yards, 2,639 to 2,610.
Better QBR, 44 to 41.
Better Rating, 135.5 to 129.5.

The only area Irons has better stats are in rushing and completion percentage, although he did play one less game so far.

Career award id throw a bone to Mcdonald. But its not like thats a good choice (no offense). Finn was the sole QB for UT in only 3 games? Some garbage time, some injuries. Still... A QB who didnt play vs. EMU, BG, and missed a half vs SDSU, and all but 2 drives vs. WMU rarely would be 2nd team if QBs in this league werent horrible.

Rourke PFF number 1 QB in the country. Lombardi number 7.

Yeah, McDonald drives me crazy watching him...it's just that the stats seem to favor him and he did manage to win 6 games...albeit many against teams backup QB's. But Irons only lead his team to 1 win, over a FCS opponent.
