I never thought he would be a finalist, sadly. He deserved it, but he doesn’t play at a P5 school.

His 34 yard on 13 carry performance at LSU is probably what did him in.

I think the fumbles played a bigger role. But the performance against LSU was the litmus test as to whether he could "play with the big boys" in the Power 5.

Honestly the fumbles should be a testament to his greatness. He led FBS in rushing despite fumbling 5 times. Kid is an animal and was absolutely hosed.

I'd imagine it's more the level of competition he faced. As others said, the LSU game kind did him in. Perception by those choosing is he was playing against lesser opponents & racking up huge numbers from it & his 1 game vs a higher opponent showed where he truly was. That may not be the case but it would be the perception of those voting for it. It is what it is & will be for a long time.

I wonder how McBride’s yards after contact stacked up against the other candidates. It seems to me that should have been a prime factor in the selection.

Yup. CUSA is the bottom of the FBS and therefore a small step above FCS.
I'm glad he's played for us but it was probably a mistake not to hit the portal after last season. Look what playing in the Big 10 did for Jordan Howard.
