Starving for attention is a bad look. Seems to be a Houston thing.

What is really funny is the Memphis brass promising the big 12 all kinds of cash and then FedEx saying hold up what?

Come on. That's not what happened. Your source has it twisted. And that was in 2016. When the Big 12 ran the fake end around to get more TV money.

Sources, Baylor, Tech and TCU

The Big 12 had talks with us for 9 months in 2016, starting in January. Fred Smith made several trips. They gave us the indication that they were selecting us and Cincinnati. FedEx committed quite a bit in terms of ad dollars and other contributions.

Then the Big 12 started the dog and pony show with all the different schools, and actually came back to FedEx and asked them to double their commitment. THAT's when FedEx told them to pound sand.

And sure enough, the Big 12 invited nobody, either b/c they were never serious, or b/c ESPN shut it down at the last minute.

The idea that FedEx was broke or decided not to help is absolutely ludicrous. I'm sure your sources believe what they were told, but that's not the whole truth.

Source: Memphis president, AD and FedEx.

I would actually love to see the real #'s on this. UH wasn't great at the onset of the conference but the last 4 have been good.

Some of you keyboard warriors should do the math. 04-cheers

Methinks Cindy and UM would be up there too.

UH will be considered one of the better programs, but - since both Louisville and UConn won NCAA championships as members of the American, Houston won't be considered the consensus top AAC program of the conference's first decade unless they win the 2023 NCAA tournament.
Agreed…

Im sorry but what year did Louisville win a national championship while as a member of the AAC?

2013? But then they had it vacated, IIRC.

The joke was that Louisville was still a part of the BE that season. Louisville only played one season in the league which happened to be the year UConn won it.

You beat who you beat. Those teams, minus Cleveland State, had to beat single digits seeds to get where they got.

Didn't EsPIN pay the Big12 NOT to expand?

*edit* I mean c'mon, they made the point of interviewing RICE. RICE! As if they have a better athletic program, than Memphis, Cinci, Houston, SMU, UCF... (maybe in baseball)

He's just salty that the last time Cincy was a #2 seed they choked away a 22 point 2nd half lead to #7 seed Nevada. Maybe if they'd been lucky like us and played a #10 seed they'd have been able to hang on. lol

oatm points out that rice has a better athletic program than memphis except for possibly soccer and mens basketball.

utaustin likes us a whole lot and their departure probably took us down a notch on the b12 radar screen.
