RE: Freeze to Auburn
I wish the best for Auburn but I'm not sure this is the best hire for that program. He's just another retread with an average track record

RE: Freeze to Auburn
I guess Auburn's buying out Freeze's recently signed 8-year deal with Liberty?

RE: Freeze to Auburn
Baggage aside, I'm not sold he's that good of a coach. He had one stellar season at Ole Miss, and a bunch of pretty average ones. And with all the resources Liberty has compared to the teams they play, it kinda feels like he's underperformed there.

IMO, Auburn is at that desperation point where alleged baggage goes out the window.
They are desperate for wins, and Freeze has won.

They're not as desperate as Nebraska was. Freeze is an excellent coach on the field who makes bad decisions off it, kind of a poor man's Urban Meyer. Auburn has the resources to win a Title though, it's by far the best program he's gotten an opportunity to lead. And Freeze has something that few others in CFB have: multiple wins over Saban. You can bet that factored into this hire.

Same guy who coached his way to a loss against UConn? OK. Good luck, Auburn.

I think one of the conditions is that Pearl handles all the phone calls.

Jim Mora is a good coach, that wasn't even much of an upset.

I just read Freeze's new deal is only 6 years @ $6.5m per year. They are definitely buying low on his stock.
I really want to be critical here, but I can't. A&M's situation is a whole lot worse than Auburn's right now, and with only a $39m contract, Auburn could easily move on in 2-3 years if things don't work out.

RE: Freeze to Auburn
...one of the weirdest aspects of this hire is that the new AU-AD, Cohen, from Mississippi State, was a big part of turning in Freeze when he was ousted from Ole Miss... when I heard that, I figured Freeze would be a DEFINITE 'no-go' for AU, but... as I've said elsewhere, Never say NEVAH!!!

Totally forgot this fact. Wonder how awkward that conversation was at the interview.

Certainly an "on brand" hire for Auburn... One that will continue to divide the fan base I'm sure.
DUMBFOUNDED to see Freeze back in the SEC.

I am pretty sure Cohen had no input to bringing down Freeze. When Tom Mars subpoenaed Freeze's phone records, an MSU journalist found the escort calls and connected the dots...
"Nutt, meanwhile, was obviously angry about being wrongly blamed for the violations. He asked for an apology. Freeze wouldn’t give him one. Instead, Freeze claimed persecution and declared himself the victim.
That caused Nutt’s lawyer, a bulldog named Tom Mars, to conduct a comprehensive public records search, including Freeze’s phone, as part of a lawsuit against the school. The escort numbers emerged."

Yep, somebody at Auburn is going to get hung out to dry over this one. The last thing we needed was this scuzzbucket!
