For a generation or more, UCLA has been one of the very top examples of a broad, and broadly excellent, athletic program.

If they admit to losing so much money, my hunch is that they are not using the same accounting criteria that enable most other athletic programs to claim to be a net financial positive for their school. :)

Cutting sports at UCLA is nothing new. As a freshman, I was on the badminton team which I maintain to this day was a varsity sport. We won the national title that year over Arizona State and then was relegated to club sport status by my sophomore year. In 1994, they eliminated both men's swimming and men's gymnastics.

UCLA's biggest issue is playing football games at a stadium that is 45 minutes away from campus (when traffic is bad). I guess technically it's 17 miles away (tying them with Miami for furthest stadium from campus - only UConn is further away at 19 miles). But my guess is in terms of traffic, it's #1.

At a glance - Hawaii is now on-campus in a 9,300-seat stadium.
Aloha Stadium was condemned.
Not familiar with any of the others.
How far away was Texas Stadium from SMU, before the death penalty moved them back to campus?
