I don’t understand the point of these transfers. They have to be getting better NIL money than those at lesser programs. If they aren’t good enough to play for OSU, they ain’t gonna be going to the League regardless.
Just saying it seems like their best option is to stay where they are, work as hard as they can, and hope for the best.
Just like Joe Burrow.
I thought of Burrow before I posted. One can argue that QB is a special case, because there is only one spot per team, and the skill set doesn’t readily transfer to any other position on the field.
In realty, Burrow would likely have been invited to camp, and would now be an NFL starter. A sure thing for Canton that a college coach misjudged, much like Brady.
They didn't misjudge him. They were protecting their own interests.
They just kept lying to him that he'd gt a shot to play so he wouldn't go to Michigan or Penn State.

Um, I think you're overlooking Sheppard who was really good this year. The names you listed are very important and Renfro may be a bigger loss because he was the glue to the OL but JQ you're hoping would develop into a Sheppard level player so losing the guy who's already a quality starter is a bigger loss

There's over 1,000 names in the portal. It's happening everywhere and I think this is the "new normal" unless some legislative changes occur. Someone joked elsewhere there might be more players in the portal than who have remained on their roster.
Seems the portal has made coaching transitions twice as difficult as in the past. Coach Saterfield must not only try to put a recruiting class together on a short cycle (as most new coaches have had to do historically), but also must re-recruit UC underclassmen who would mostly have returned under the old system.
I'm hopeful that most will return once they meet their new position coaches and understand plans for UC football. I'll feel better when a few from Louisville's top twenty recruiting class start flipping to UC. Is that less likely with NIL? Maybe.

Some good news for a change. Kiner staying.
Hopefully that is an old picture when CSS was recruiting him to UofL. (UofL shirt, and poster on the wall)

Kiner probably has a hundred of these pics with every coach in the country, since every coach in the country was recruiting him coming out of high school. He shows up in Clifton, and gets buried fourth on the depth chart. Makes ya wonder. I also wonder how a talented athlete like Evan Prater could have spent two years in our program and have such poor mechanics throwing the ball. I wonder how come our offensive lines were never sure who they were supposed to block when D-Lines showed them different fronts. I wonder how come we had two NFL caliber tight ends that we seldom targeted this year, or why we played a three man front on D and let the offensive guards have a free run at our LB's. I wonder why Jack Dingle, who is gonna' play on Sundays could never get on the field. Luke was a good man, but I still contend that "The next guy he out coaches, will be the first guy he out coaches".

I saw that tweet by Kandra, because it was replied to by Corleone. Seems like a good sign.

"In 2020, 49% of athletes (6,703) who entered the transfer portal enrolled at a new school, while 44% (6,009 athletes) are still exploring their options, transferred to a non-NCAA school, or left their sport, the NCAA data shows. The remainder of athletes withdrew from the transfer portal."
Interesting to see if any Bearcats come back because once a player is officially in the portal his scholarship can be rescinded and offered to another incoming student-athlete.

So only 7% return to the original school. So we might get to keep 1 - who would everyone want to keep?

Two things:
1) This tells me that, for all intents and purposes, that when a kid "enters the portal," they are done with their team, for whatever reasons. It is not typically a "whim."
2) Ryan Coe. That's who I'd like "back."

I've found it interesting that it appears, at least from my Twitter feed, that our punter in the main force trying to keep the team together.
Mason Fletcher has truly been a blessing for our program.

He's been incredible on the field. And from everything I've read, off the field too. Maybe a "glue" guy who holds some wavering Bearcat players long enough for the new coaching staff to show some love and calm the storm.

Probably helps that he is also one of the oldest guys in the locker room and insanely well liked. He really is a phenomenal dude.
