It is time for Urban Meyer to repay us, come and coach the Bearcats.

I know he has 3 NC's, but do we really want a guy who was essentially fired from his last 2 jobs because of character issues?

We hired one before CLF who had a wife drive through a red light and end up killing a 90 year old with no investigation by campus cops about what she was doing before getting behind the wheel so what the heck.

I mean that's just future senators being future senators, right?

The fact that most of our fans didn't know and most of the ones that did defended him tells us all you need to know. Lol.

Sorry...it's funny but it's not funny. Probably good we'll play in the Taco Bell Bowl this year.

This timing is the worst possible for UC's program health. Going to get clubbed like a baby seal next season. Was already going to be hard with what we lacked on the current roster.

I hope he's rich and unemployed in 4 years.

This is entirely plausible.

LOL you guys simultaneously are pissed he's leaving and think he sucks so bad he could flame put in 4 years.
Pissed when he's leaving is not the same as pissed that he's leaving. Frankly, I'm OK with getting a new coach. We were going to get our asses kicked on the regular in the B12 with how we hire staff and coach not to lose.

So he's screwed us and also we'd have been screwed entering the B12 anyway, so F him, let's get a new coach, and also the potential replacements aren't very inspiring?

i definitely said that bolded part and that's my opinion. i also referenced the italicized part (although that's not the way i phrased it) but that was in the context of possibly exercising more patience in the hiring process. Even with Luke heading into the b12, it would have been rough.

I am guessing that Fickell knew he would probably never get the OSU job. So that leaves Michigan, Penn State or Wisconsin as possible choices in the future. Penn State still has Paterno stink on it, it'd be unusual for a Buckeye player to get a job at Michigan. That left Wisconsin. He could feasibly out recruit Michigan and OSU, although it will be hard to routinely do that and beat them. Still being second best in the big 10 could give him a chance to play in the playoffs.

i don't actually think that to be the case. That said, i can see him developing players where in their 3rd and 4th years they can beat osu/michigan teams that have roster attrition due to draft and transfer portal departures and transfer.

Honestly, one of the things that really pysses me off about Luke going to Wisconsin is that it will add to the competition recruiting wise in Cincinnati and the immediate vicinity (i realize we benefitted from Luke and Co.s reputation in recruiting COL and Northern OH). osu recruits nationally and elite OH prospect, but all the other b10 teams generally recruit the same caliber of recruit that we do in OH pretty aggressively.

Looking back at the commitments for wisconsin, it looks like a handful of OH recruits over the past couple of years, with the majority of them from central and northern OH. i only saw one from Cincy (Roger Bacon). That's going to change drastically i imagine and it's going to negatively affect Cincy in a significant way.

He didn't stay because he was loyal, he stayed because he knew uc was a great job where he could win big.

He left because he saw another program he felt was a great fit where he felt he could do more. The list of programs he felt could do that were small. That speaks volumes for UC.

It’s really this simple. I think B1G TV money, weak West division, possible two super conferences, and a great OL program was the difference.

I'm with Brendel.

I'd go get neon Deion.

Talk about staying relevant. We'd be the coolest destination around for recruits. He's winning big on the level he's at right now.

He'd instantly solve our QB problem too.

Look at Michigan's recruiting...he was close to out recruiting them at Cincinnati this year...

Bolded, that would be my biggest concern too. Under Fickell, UC made incredible progress toward becoming a statewide brand and strong regional recruiting draw. I believe Big 12 membership will help to further elevate the OH recruiting profile, but by how much is still to be determined. It's not just OSU, but a handful of B10 schools are in close proximity where friends and family can see them play on a regular basis. On the plus side though, the next UC staff can talk to players about the P5 and games with TCU, Baylor, or Oklahoma State instead of ECU, Tulsa, and Temple. Still, Fickell may cast a long shadow into Ohio from Madison, WI and can "sell" against UC if he chooses by saying, been there, done that and I want you in the B10.

I really respect Chad's opinion but I'm always wary of "celebrity hires". Deion would be a marketing dream and exposure would probably increase exponentially. But has he developed the ability to be a football CEO--hiring well, managing assistant coaches, making sure the academic standards UC has achieved are maintained?

I keep coming back to Tom Herman this morning in terms of experience but I have no idea if he wants to get back into the rough and tumble again with his net worth. We all may be completely (pleasantly) surprised by Cunningham's choice.

I still can't believe the ******* didn't call a timeout at the end of the first half of a home against with the conference on the line when UC was losing and Tulane was set to get the ball out of halftime. 9-3 is good and all but this team and staff did not work to get better as the season went along.

I tried to post from Nippert during the game but couldn't get cell service that it seems as though Fick has either checked out or is out of gas after building this program up. Seems now like it was maybe a bit of both but he was for sure somewhat checked out. I have to imagine his protege getting the Notre Dame job didn't sit well with him.

I feel bad for Josh, Lenny, and Tre...They deserved better. So it goes....

RE: Fickelll
If i were to guess i'd say Ficks departure was primarily based on two things:

1 inability to hire and keep assistants
As much as we dread our program being viewed as a stepping stone for head coaches, i think this view is likely compounded for assistant coaching gigs. both money and prestige.

2 NIL
We recently lost out on multiple recruits we almost certainly would have landed because of NIL money and then even worse lost committed recruits for the same reason. Writing is on the wall with this stuff. I could be wrong but i'd assume our corporate sponsors are near tapped out with all the projects we've done in the last 2 decades along with upcoming indoor facility. Likely doesnt help we recently cut off the schott foundation lol.

Pure speculation, but looking at the program these seem to be our weaknesses that even a great coach cant do a thing about. Infusion of Big12 money will eventually open this up, but in the short term we're likely headed for some growing pains until the money catches up.

Clown interviewed with WI the next day after the ECU game. I'm sure we got his total 100% focus for recruiting and game prep in the weeks that followed.

Everything about this season felt off. The messaging was odd, the staff didn’t scream big time, and the in game decisions were questionable.

I am just happy he moved on so UC can rebuild with next guy. Give UC 3 to 5 good years and let’s find the next one again.
