I don't think CCU cared much about this game. They just had no fight in them...at all. I also think JMU wins even if McCall is healthy and the division was on the line. The Dukes are just better, in my opinion.

And, if there are folks who insist McCall would have made that big a difference, then it means Jamey Chadwell should not be considered for a P5 job.

The most disappointing thing. For anybody that knows how that looks it was pretty apparent the team was unmotivated. We still had a lot to play for but our coaches didn't get the team ready. That leaves a sour taste more than anything going into the CCG.

Sure, a McCall led offense would've probably scored more than 7 points but with that effort, Coastal would've still loss convincingly. JMU is a good team, that was ready, and had something to prove on Saturday. Without matched intensity, that game wasn't going to be in Coastal's favor from the onset.

After Coastal got down a little they threw the towel. Coaches did as well. I really don't like that. If that's going to be a thing, I don't even want Chadwell and staff leading our program. They can certainly take that somewhere else.

I get what you are saying and somewhat agree, But I do think we basically started sitting starters either that were a little banged up or to prevent them from getting hurt. JMU was playing physical as it was their last game. I think we realized that a win but losing key starters would be more detrimental - or even worse losing key guys and still losing in a closer game. For example, I don't think Jerrod Clark played at all the second half. He was getting double teamed the whole time and so I think they decided it wasn't worth guys like him getting hurt.

Was it the right or wrong decision? I guess we'll see next week.

I think this has been the case for weeks, since McCall went out. We’ve been told all the RBs… Bennett, Bedgood, White are healthy and ready. Then they get 2 carries and disappear. Couple key D guys too, you mention Clark, but the LBs have been dinged, and there’s been heavy rotation into the 2-deep plus, where you normally wouldn’t see it.

Not an excuse for JMU… just truth. I truly think we are trying to patchwork this together in hopes we can get 75% somewhat healthy for the CG. Worst I’ve seen a Coastal team beat up ever.

If McCall isn’t ready, not sure it matters. Someone above, or in another thread maybe, hung that on JC… if he’s that dependent on McCall. Just not true. When anyone goes to QB2 (aside from those that just fail completely), they try to succeed with game management and use their other strengths. Welp, that isn’t working for us because all our other strengths are out too. Is what it is.

This is the biggest bunch of malarkey I’ve read since Baghdad Bob was spewing out press releases for Sadam Hussein.

CC tried their best to win the game against JMU, just as CC tried to win against ODU (and on CC’s home field with Chadwell no less).

Face it. Own it. CC was exposed. Resting or saving something for Troy isn’t going to do the teal chickens any good in the championship game (which in a normal year CC wouldn’t be playing in).

Very very interesting. 05-stirthepot

As a big time gambler :) (I put $5 on a few games a week) I really liked Coastal in that game, spread that big I thought would be viewed as an insult and raise the hackles of the players. Watched bit of it and seemed as soon as it became a 2 score game there was mass agreement of "Well this game doesn't matter, we are already have the spot" and mailed it in the rest of the way.

McCall ran the offense efficiently, which gave his defense a chance to catch their breath and make adjustments. I’m not saying he would have helped them win, but I would bet my house it’s a closer game with a guy like him running the offense.

As a fan of a school that may have set a record for three and outs this year, the offense goes a long way toward the performance of the defense.

Best defense is not letting your opponent have the ball and when you do let them have the ball it's because you have 7 more points than you had before you got the ball.

If the offense gets the lead, the job of the defense becomes easier because the opponent is tossing plays from the playbook concentrating on trying to catch up.

Scorecasting has a great analysis of the premise that the best NFL teams run the ball the best. Breaking down rushing by quarter and lead, it became apparent that the best teams throw just as much as bad teams early in the game. Once they build a lead, they run more to run out the clock and to keep the opponent offense off the field.
