Dude is a stud.

I'll have to agree.

Vantrease for me, only because I don't think Southern is any good at all without him. JMU is still passably decent without Centeio.

But I know we stonewalled him last week.

Do we really think he'll get OPOY? A LOT of picks...

Do they still do newcomer of the year? Cause I could see that 100%

I realize Kyle Vantrease has a schematic advantage over every other QB in the conference but the guy is likely to finish at the nation's second-leading passer and we're not the only air raid team in the country. He should be in the conversation.

The picks just make it tough for me to put Vantrease up there with Toddy and McCall.

Ventrease's picks in quite a few cases were thrown when he was getting hit or missed routes by receivers. He has had to get a bunch of throws out quickly, too, so he missed a lot of progressions he could've gone to.

Correct take. In 2021 JMU was an FCS National contender and Coastal was ranked for 10 consecutive weeks. GS was 3-9 and they would have been 3-9 again if not for him. No one player has pulled his team up as much as Vantrease.

Yes, McCall is very good. Apparently, however, you’ve missed watching Todd Centeio play.

I’ll go with my homer pick of Frank Gore, Jr. The kid gets it done. I don’t know what we would have done without him the past couple of years.

RE: 2022 Sun Belt Conference OPOY Discussion
Laborn beat Notre Dame. Before we settled on a QB and got him some games, we had zero offense except for what Laborn could do. Guy regularly had 30+ carries and was tough as nails. Played banged up and injured because we needed him to. Has 1500 yards rushing. Was the sole source of joy watching Marshall football most of this year. Had over 100 yards in every game except one and that was the game Ali came back and split time with him. If he doesn't get an offensive award, he should definitely earn the best newcomer straight out of the portal.

Oh, and he busted an 85 yard TD just yesterday afternoon. No one has meant more to a team than him considering the unthinkable loss of Ali just days before the season started.

Apparently you missed my other post where I reread the stats and thought TC was deserving 04-cheers

I think it's worth noting how a dual threat versus pocket passer comes into play as well. Centeio (284) and McCall (244) combined had fewer pass attempts than Vantrease (558) . I can understand on a pure basis Vantrease would have more INTs (but his TD/INT ratio isn't OPOY worthy either though).

A bit of a chicken versus the egg argument but if a defense is scheming to stop Vantrease throwing versus say stopping the rush / QB scramble against JMU, I would expect Vantrease's stats to be worst.

I still put McCall and Centeio as well as a couple RBs above Vantrease for OPOY.
