RE: Briggs need to address the 800-pound gorilla
I was at the game yesterday, and having been very critical of coaches and players at times this season, my expectation this seasn for team was MAC title, no more settling for 7 or even 8 win seasons, no MAC game, and losing a bowl, and they played a great MACC game and won the 2022 MAC championship title-congrats to all.

Yeah, the team was a real disaster.

This team deserves a better fan base. If I were a Rockets player, I would get sick of reading this crap.

I find it hilarious how you picked Ranger to spew your typical nonsense about how this fan base sucks. He gave his life and soul to this university for years traveling all over the country watching the Rockets while I’m guessing you didn’t. So did I. We’ve earned the right to b*tch. Heaven forbid we have hopes and dreams beyond 8 win seasons

And I’ll bet money if players read this board, they’d probably agree with most of it, particularly with the coaching. We’ve had enough former players on here to confirm that.

Yes winning the MACC is huge. But you looked horrible most of the year doing it. Imagine 2 more wins, 10-3 heading into a bowl game and on the brink of a top 25 ranking. Then, I’d understand people mad if others were complaining.

I don't see a 17-7 game against a team with no conf players on 1st or 2nd team, losing their 3rd team LB mid-way and not having their OPOY QB at all, shaving any weight off this gorilla.

Better to win sure. It's a banner no one will remember the circumstance of in 20 years. Why it would be a game changer for the highest paid coach in the league?

Liberty isn't going to do anything to raise the prestige of the Toledo program and they're dangerous. Not sure how many players they lost when Freeze left but I suspect still some talent there, regardless getting blown out by a weak New Mexico St in their last game.

Is it a win for the program? Probably not. Liberty lost three at the end, one badly against a bad team and for all the money they're throwing around, they're still very early App St. Their name doesn't mean much yet.

Is it a potential win for Coach Candle? Yeah, sure he's going against a new coach who has had little time with the program but that coach is getting 4 million a year. It's a chance to win against a strongly talented team with a respected coach at the helm.

Briggs need to address the 800-pound gorilla
Something is going to happen in the next week or two

UT budget not great
New AD
Backing into the championship game
One year left on deal

I would not be surprised if Candle walks at this point. Not sure UT could give him a raise. And other opportunities exist

Big factor is how much his wife likes Toledo and the school their kids are in

More likely a compensated separation, some paid back if another football job was taken.Walking would be a disaster for both the program and his career. IMO, best for both, if no new offer elsewhere or he's uncomfortable accepting a package in line with University economics, he stays lame-duck. Does his best to keep the program running and the entire staff has time to find landing spots. All this presuming he's not burnt out in anyway.

When he got it, my first post was it puts a target on his back. It's a magic number. Any "heat" he feels from "iron thumbs" in THIS town is pretty minimal compared to the real world. It's crazy he would even say something like that. Even if they don't want to answer, an HC has to be better at deflecting without coming off arrogant or uncaring.

They recently bought a house in Ottawa Hills and are currently installing a pool. I'm sure she likes sending her kids to the No. 1 public education system in the state (assuming they go to Ottawa Hills).

At that salary I suppose he could have paid cash. Appeals to my cynical side that a new contract was already agreed.

I think at this point only way Candle leaves is if he chooses to take a higher profile higher paid HC or OC at a larger program, and I have no idea if he is "in-demand" and seen by others in CFB as "on the rise"....

Different gorilla but let's talk ADs. Kent St's AD.

How does Kent in one season get

Football: Washington, Oklahoma, Georgia
MB-Ball: Houston, Gonzaga

they lose a football coach to an OC position under Prime.

Who was their AD prior to the new one in 2021? Their new one, an Ohio kid looks pretty solid too. Is ours setting sites high as far as scheduling or is that purely a coaching arrangement?

P5's are paying for a guaranteed win. Not really getting that with UT.

Kent made them work for it far more than we have recently, sadly. I'm not sure that's a legit excuse. P5's know how to look at records.

Kent's recent P5 losses are all basically blowouts except the one score loss to Illinois in 2018. Remember, ⁷Rocket lost at Notre Dame(11-3) by 3 in 2021.

Pool eh. Make it a swim spa with a hot tub. Personally a pool is just a headache. Hot tub much more useable

Ottawa Hills is nice. Always liked driving thru on way to school. Saw Bill Laimbeer popping out of a convertible driving opposite direction
