Rhodes College is 3-1 this season, with wins over the University of Dallas, Belhaven, and Spalding University. I believe they compete at the NCAA Division III level.

https://rhodeslynx.com/sports/mens-basketball

Their #23 Junior guard, Hayden Lamey, is from Birmingham (Briarwood).

KenPom has UAB up to #39.

UAB beat Rhodes 98-61 last season. UAB also beat Rhodes 95-72 in 1984. This will be the third meeting between the two schools.

Hopefully, Jelly drops 40. I need something to cheer about this Saturday because I know the other game will be ugly.

There is no reason we should be playing a D 3 school. No benefit from winning. No reason for a large fan turn out. Risk of injuries in a game that doesn't matter ... Playing a D 3 is an all around negative.

UAB "should" blow out Tech.

I'd expect a lot of the bench players to get playing time during this game. We didn't exactly empty the bench much during the Sunshine Slam. I can see Butta having a great game and throw Tony in there for some solid minutes and see if he can calm down on offense.

RE: Rhodes Lynx
I would rather NOT play a DIII school but the reason we are is we needed another home game to make our schedule, and they are cheaper than bringing a DI school. I disagree that there is no benefit as you want two our three games where you blow out the opponent and give everyone some valuable playing time. It also will not hurt our ranking as playing a bad DI team will. Again I would rather NOT play a DIII school but understand why AK scheduled it. I am excited to see the entire bench play.

As far as getting someone hurt, that can happen against anyone so you cannot schedule or play a game with that in your mind. If you get a guy hurt does it make a difference what game it is? It's bad no matter who it is. Hell we can get a guy injured in practice, in scrimmages, or in summer workouts where they "don't count".

Let the starters get 10-15 minutes of thrashing time, and then play the bench the rest of the way.

Would be nice to get butta, toney, and Bertram 25-30 minutes today. Butta needs all the confidence and game time he can get. We may need him this year.

Somewhat interesting factoid: Supreme Court justice Amy Coney Barrett is a Rhodes alum.

I don't really care for playing DIII schools, either. However, like Attalla said, it's not going to hurt us like playing a bad DI school would. Besides that, since we have to have a game to fill out the schedule, I like the fact that we're helping a small school make their athletic budget. I went to a DII school in Florida for undergrad and the yearly game against a DI school in basketball essentially paid all the scholarship money for basketball. While there's no athletic scholarship money in DIII, this game probably pays for a decent chunk of their travel expenses for the season.

Since we aren’t redshirting Rongie, I’d love to get him some game time as well. If our bigs get in foul trouble(more of a when) we are going to need him. He has experience and is a solid player, but he needs game time. I’d also like to see us draw up some plays for a Bertram. The guy has a pure shot, I’d like to get him in a rhythm and make some useful buckets for us going forward.

RE: Rhodes Lynx
can't tell if we're pressuring them in to turnovers or not due to no audio but we're getting them to turn it over & we're scoring off them plus dominating the boards.

35-10
