I had read something that said that Fickell was a strong candidate for that job.

Sounds like Hugh Freese to Auburn. They never learn (or care) in the SEC West.

And here i was thinking that the industry might have been put off by a lackluster season, and that we might get some quiet for once.

Thamel wouldn’t report that if it wasn’t close to a done deal.
What a horrible, horrible week for UC sports. This is going to be a massive setback moving into the Big 12.

At least UC has the Big XII to sell the next coach. It be far worse if UC was left behind again.

Must be willing to throw some massive coin at him.
I think Fickell knows its OSU/Michigan and everybody else. No coach who wants to win should go to the B1G. If they do, it's just for a payday.

Wisconsin plays exactly the style Fickell wants to play, recruits the kind of players Fickell wants to have play for him, will get in the door anywhere in the Midwest, and has very little resistance to 10 win seasons every year. Saying otherwise is just mainlining some industrial grade copium.
Love Fickell for what he has done, where he has gotten us, etc...but this is going to hurt for years. I don't know how we keep many of our recruits in this class, our staff is going to be basically two guys by the end of the week IMO (Gino and Walt), and we are going to have some very significant losses to the portal. Without a Hail Mary, we are going to have a tough time getting anywhere close to bowl eligible this coming year.

Sounds like he might be gone, but why would he take Wisconsin now, but not Michigan State then? Because of the Nassar stuff? It would have made more sense for him to leave then, unless he has internal doubts about how long it will take for UC to be at the top of the Big 12.

It has been reported multiple times that Amy nixed MSU because of the Nassar stuff, he had a deal and left Lansing with everyone at MSU thinking that got him.
Wisconsin is MSU without the baggage, the 2nd in state bog boy, or the wardrobe color change.

Wisconsin is probably a better job than Michigan State. Top dog in the state (only dog) compared to being in Michigan’s shadow.

He is gone. Time to get the next guy and figure out how to win in the Big XII. It’s not going to be with 3 man fronts and sitting on the ball at the end of a half.

He didn’t leave because he knew he had a great team coming up and a chance to do something historic. We don’t have that now.

I think he’d be a good hire on paper at least.

Like I said after the Tulane game, the winning era of Bearcats sports has officially come to an end. This was inevitable and I think Luke saw it. We need to accept that we are now Rutgers for the foreseeable future.
