RE: Lady Blazers improve to 4-0 on the season.
I believe the Blazers played their strongest game today since Miyah Barnes graduated three years ago. That has everything to do with freshman point guard Denim DeShields, whose stat line looked like this:
25 points, 10-of-15 shooting (3 of 5 on 3-pointers), 3 assists.
Here’s hoping the knee injury that forced her from the game with 5:32 left is not serious. The Blazers led by 16 when she exited. On the live stream a few minutes after her departure, I saw her jumping a little off two feet off to the side, but she looked to be walking a little stiffly in the postgame high-five line.
We had three others in double figures: Margaret Whitley with 14 points and Lyndsey Robson and Tracey Bershers with 11 each. Bershers, a center who transferred from Oklahoma State, was 3 of 4 on 3-pointers.
UAB (4-0) did all this without Destinee McGhee and Emily Klaczek today. If we can get DeShields and everybody else healthy again, I believe this is going to be a really special season. Today was a ton of fun (except for DeShields’ exit).

What's up with the SEC (Arkansas?) transfer from BHam area? Haven't seen mention of her recently.

wait, what?
I got an alert from the UAB app that we lost 74-83
website shows a loss
when you click on the boxscore, main score up top says we lost, but when you scroll down it looks like we won
why is it so hard to be a Blazer fan?

I’ve wondered that too. I saw the Twitter account wished her a happy birthday recently & she’s still on the official roster, so it looks like she’s still part of the team. Illness perhaps?

Losing by 9 to the #12 team when you're rebuilding isn't really humbling for a rebuilding program. IMO, it's a step in the right direction to show that you can hang with a highly ranked program. The future is bright.

Are we playing LSU in any other sports in the near future? Just want to be prepared for more humiliation.

There’s going to be a ton of good for UAB having played a team the caliber of LSU. I guarantee it. It was a great experience for the ladies.

From experience, it's a LOT more embarrassing to say something like that directly to a coach during a postgame press conference. :-)

I hope we don't see them in softball anytime soon. Marla Townsend's daughter Maia will be a freshman for them this year. Maia's a helluva player.
