I’m not defending the coaching staff but we were up 4 on the road against a team favored by 13. I’m not sure what halftime adjustments we were supposed to make? Seems like the plan was working.

No adjustments, no response to Pitt's increase in intensity, no timeout to light a fire and stop the fade.......

Pitt getting open 3s when their big kicks out of the double. On the other end we're missing open 3s and foul shots.

Yeah. You could tell early on how hard he was pressing. Really struggled out there.

A win and that might have been curtains for Capel. Dane didn't want blood on his hands.

Pittsburgh is the 2nd worst team in the ACC next to Louisville. The better teams in the CAA would more than likely beat Pittsburgh. W&M is not one of the better teams in the CAA right now.

Only shot 50% from the line and missed 14 three point attempts. Didn't handle the increase in defensive intensity from Pitt very well in the 2nd Half.

Thanks to TV can replay the plays over to see our offensive sets. Our main set with Rice at PG consists of:
high ball screen set for Rice (he waives Wight off setting this 1/2 the time)
Left wing comes high for handoff from Rice who either sets pause screen or goes to right wing. 3rd option seems to be hitting right wing for 3.
Rice never moves ball to left. Like he is right eye dominant or something.
A very static offense.

Last basket for tribe was best offensive ball movement all game: in, out, pass move, ball touches all 5 players for an inside out to open 3.
I don’t understand why they don’t run that all day.

On D this team gives up a lot of open outside looks. Maybe they had to v Hugley, but it seems to be a trend opponents will target.

And Dorsey must be reading this board as he thinks he has Curry pull up range on break. He doesn’t so hopefully that stops.

We have very susceptible all year to passes inside, leading our defense to collapse to help our inside bigs and resulting in open, uncontested 3s.

Very positive first half followed by a repeat of the VPI first half in our second half against Pitt.

Team played very tight in second half and did not show patience on offense.

On to NC State and let us hope we can play 2 good halves as they are the best team on our OCC schedule

RE: MBB Pitt
That was an unfortunate second half, but a great first half. I think the really disappointing thing is we showed in the first half that we can compete with P5 talent.

I think Dane actually had Capel's number in the first half (probably not too hard as Capel is likely the worst coach in the ACC) with that double team down low. It took a few incredible passes by Hugley and then some hot shooting from a notoriously bad 3 point shooting team to finally crack it. Which honestly is about the best Dane could've hoped for.

My potpourri thoughts...Karasinski is very talented (just adding his backdoor cuts were incredible) but had a few "freshman" moments. Tough no call on the goal tend, but he should've gone in harder. About the only thing Pitt did right in the first half was neutralize Mullins who then never got it going. Collier was totally thrown and we probably should've brough in Williams earlier. Rice is unfortunately just not showing up, Sibande made a living on Rice missing the box out. Wight is a force, I guess Dane rested him thinking it was not worth him getting injured by one of those tubby bigs on Pitt, but when he pulled him a few minutes into the second half Pitt just took off.

I'll give Dane a pass on that one, but that's about the best we've matched up against an ACC team in terms of talent/size in a long time and there were probably ways a creative coach could've taken that home.

Fun to watch us compete so favorably against a P5 team in that first half. We looked really good…for a half.

We can’t shoot 50% from the line, and 25% from 3, and upset anyone. I honestly didn’t think our defense looked too bad, even in the 2nd half. They just couldn’t miss during that fateful 8 minute stretch when the game got out of reach.

That may be the worst game Noah will play all year. Pressed way too hard. Sleep it off and never think about it again. He’ll come out much better vs NC State.

When we were struggling so much to shoot in the 2nd half, I wonder if Dane considered giving Ayesa a little run.

Karasinski plays really smart. I’m excited to see what he can do as the year progresses.

Mullins also with an off night.

Brighter days ahead for this bunch this year.

Things went to hell when we kept doubling down low and the kickout guy never missed from three. Very unlucky for us because Pitt is a bad shooting team most nights. Not too many CAA teams with tanks on the inside like Pitt has.

The first half was very encouraging. The second half reverted to recent form.

To be fair though, our strat coming out of the half was hope they keep shooting mid-range jumpers and not crashing the boards. We weren't the team that needed to make adjustments, we needed the unlikely to continue happening.

It was a good measuring stick game for us. We're not going to be able to be physical like P5 teams can be. If we want to have a chance in these games we've got to be better at boxing out and hitting open looks though. A troubling trend this year (continued from last year) is missing shots around the basket. We're pretty good at getting to the basket, but pretty bad at converting shots there. We were either getting offensive rebounds or making those shots in the first half, and we were missing them in the second half. Throw that on top of Pitt finding their shooting touch and it went downhill in a hurry.

Not a terrible showing though. We still played better than the first couple games of the year, and looked like we had a plan on offense. There's still a lot of improvement that can come from players becoming familiar with each other. Hopefully we get there by the CAA tournament.

I thought I remembered the announcers saying Ben asked out then. He was gassed from doing everything in the first half and the start of the second. We just never had any help for him.
