Prior to Coach Lewis arriving what would the chances of Kent State having a 4th team QB lead the team to victory.
Additionally having the team go on the road to Buffalo with no chance of a bowl game and rally for a victory.
I share the frustration of many not going to a bowl game and "winnable games" that were lost this year. A couple of times during the game the announcers commented about how the defense play looked improved. Maybe it was because we finally had the starting safeties playing?
Both Washington and Georgia are playing in their conference championship games next week, Oklahoma had a down year. Point being the MAC schools that are going bowling only play 2 money games per season.
So maybe some of the frustration should be directed to the fund-raising section of the athletic department and the inability to generate revenue,
I agree, Proud pilot. I have mixed feelings. I'm disappointed because I expected more, but I'm also thrilled for the reasons you mentioned. A 5-7 record is one heck of a lot better than so many years with three or fewer wins. Plus, they hung pretty darn well with #1 Georgia and beat Ohio. Of course, when they beat Ohio I had no idea that Ohio would have the season they've had. And they beat Akron which is always a plus.
I'm afraid I too abandoned the game for basketball, but was thrilled when it went OT. Kudos to Coach and especially the OL for sticking with it and grinding out a win. There's little doubt past KSU teams would have folded. I had forgotten about Xavier - boy he provided explosive plays the last couple of seasons and is a nice compliment to Cooper. I agree that Cooper has been a real treat yo watch. The loss of Cephas was tough and I'm wondering about Schlee's durability. We definitely need to get depth at several key positions.
The kicking game was a problem all season - what happened to the kid recruited from Strongsville who was blasting KOs out of the end zone in high school?
All and all sort of a disappointing season but lots of close games and tough schedule. OU was the big surprise but their QB is legit. We'll see if they can take down UT?
BTW saw on Hustle Belt that WMU fires Lester, never went worse than 4-4 in the MAC and a couple of bowls but no MACC. Seems tough to me, but I guess they have the $$$.
They really must have the money. Typically, a MAC football coach isn't let go with his record.

PJ Fleck raised the expectations for WMU. He out recruited the MAC and won and WMU liked winning. If I am not mistaken, they offered a sum way beyond the MAC range for coaches, in order to keep him. Of course, Minn. had a bigger bank. I am sure that WMU does not want to step backward. Lester was a WMU alumnus but it did not help.
