SBC Basketball Feast Week
Southern Miss beats Winthrop in Cancun 77-52 to reach 5-0 on the season so far (2 wins are vs NAIA). Last season, USM didn't win its fifth game until January 6. It's basically a new team via the portal with a couple of holdovers, and new assistant coaches. We have zero freshmen players.

Southern Miss is a completely different team than they've had in the past. This team has a different feel about it. 5-0 with wins over Vanderbilt, Liberty, and Winthrop. Liberty was 22-11 last year. Winthrop was 23-9, Vandy was 17-16. These aren't slouch teams.

Well Warhawks have taken down 2 NAIA power houses and got edged out last night to LaTurd by only 21, so we are all set for another great season of 6-8 wins and at least 1 in conference ….

Any of Ladner's first three teams would have been 2-3 or worse at this point. He was told he had to win or else after last year and is working on his final contract year. He fired all his assistant coaches and dropped most of the roster. Prior to this year, he had 24 total wins in three seasons. It's still early days, but he seems to have put together a significantly improved roster.

You'll be significantly higher in a week or two when all these opponents start linking up, I think. If you keep winning or at least don't lose at home to a bad team.

We're only where we are because of last year's schedule. Once they see the garbage we scheduled OOC this year we'll drop like a stone. Plus, of course, our loss to Queens won't help once it's factored in. Thank God they a) don't suck and b) were on the road.

So much movement in these ratings with so few data points. One game can move you up or down 10-20 spots.

We moved to 214 with the win today. It's like baseball RPI, don't even look until you're about three weekends deep in conference.

Great game UL! Cajuns take down SMU at their house.

SBC has been flexing their muscle in OOC. You love to see it.

Is it just me or does it feel like a little bit of a corner already being turned in SBC basketball? So far at least, obviously it's still very very early in the season. But I don't know whether to think I just had a worse impression of SBC basketball than the reality or things are looking up early on here.

I know what you mean. The season is still young but I feel like the SBC is really stepping up. Lots of quality wins in OOC all throughout the conference.

AState beat UT Martin in Jonesboro today for our first win over a D1 team this season. Two previous losses were both money games, both wins were Non D1's

Oh, and for like the 15,000th time since he's been here, our head coach got into an argument with the opposing coach post game. We used to side with Balado in these things early on, but at this point we've figured out the only commonality in all of these dustups is our own coach.

Wasn’t acknowledged here yet but kudos to Tx State beating Cal at Cal. Cal is now 0-5. The entire PAC 12 is struggling heavily in OOC this year. Looks like only two quality teams so far.

Balado isn't afraid to say what's on his mind and I don't mind that. UT Martin needs to work on their flopping. Looking back at the end of the game, it looked more like a UT Martin player was coming after coach when he was celebrating. end game clip: https://twitter.com/ChrisHudgison/status...3941396480

Good win over a bad team but still always nice to get P5 wins.

Sucks TXST lost to UTSA but the Rhode Island win on the road was nice.

I fail to see how you can not be embarrassed by that child like behavior from a grown man who is supposed to set and example and lead his team. But you do you.

I agree. I don't remember CUSA having these type of wins (except WKU), but then again I checked out on CUSA a few years ago.
