4 if the fans and donors are still on board. 3 total if people check out.

RE: UC versus Columbus State (O$U) Game Thread
My favorite team plays in the best early season tournament and I can't even bring myself to watch because of the state of the program. Tight.

I will probably tune in tonight though. It should at least be a competitive game. And before anyone can say Arizona was a competitive game. Stop. It was an entertaining game but we were completely outclassed start to finish. We just caught fire from deep.

Wes Miller gets 4 years minimum. John Brannen wasn't getting fired until he gave the university a reason to.

Hopefully coach rides Reed and Skillings all year. Develop those guys. I couldn't care less about playing the covid year veterans.

We needs a Cincinnati Reds type fire sale after this season. Lahkin, Reed, Skillings, Jizzle and Rayvon. Fill the rest with the best you can get in the portal and start building from there.

RE: UC versus Columbus State (O$U) Game Thread
The dream that we are going to fill holes with transfer is just plain unrealistic. It was this year and will be next year as well. There simply aren't that many high level transfers and guys with only a year or two left want to go to a team that's going to win now, not to participate in a rebuild. You end up with what we got this year, guys who either just want minutes that they wouldn't get on a better team (Phinisee), mid-major guys who want a chance that a better team isn't willing to give them (Kalu) or a guy who's known for being a bit of a head-case and wants a chance to be "the guy" that he wouldn't get on a better team (Nolley). We'll have a better pitch next year in the big 12, but we won't have a great pitch until we start making the NCAA tournament.

There's also a lot to be said for keeping the team together. It helps to have guys experienced in the system and not needing to reteach the basics to half the team every year. A fire sale is just going to leave us with another bad team. MAW, Davenport and Nolley I'm willing to keep around next year, though perhaps is lesser roles. They'd be a group of solid veterans if they average 15-20 minutes per game and bring their all on every possession.

That said, we should start to rotate to the youth this year. Sage, Hensley, Vik, Skillings, Reed should start getting more minutes as the season progresses. Any of the veterans who is a bad example (doesn't give 100% on every play) should be benched until the message gets through (Nolley and Davenport are the top candidates, possibly DDJ as well) and forced out if they don't change by the end of the season. Start building the culture and enforcing expectations. We don't want a poor example to be set for our young players.

What exactly is the deal with Neman?

Have they said?

Is he out for the season?

Knee surgery for torn meniscus. Out up to a couple months. Perhaps he's back mid conference schedule when we are all trying to figure out how many open scholarships we have to fill again for a 4th straight year.

I wonder if Newman has any interest in sitting out the rest of the season, taking a medical redshirt and coming back next year. He's the type of player we need as a leader next year (and this year). There's a pretty good chance out post-season chances will be out the window by the time he is healthy.

I thought about that too. I think if he can get back in January you still play him even if it’s just for a month or so. The back part of conference play is easier. The hope would be Wes has made changes and team improves.

Trading Nolley and Davenport's minutes for Skillings and Reed is a huge downgrade now, even if it might pay off down the line, and I'm kinda dubious it would. Vik is playing all the minutes he can, it seems--he gets into foul trouble and is often winded. I'd be fine with seeing what Sage can do but I gather it isn't much. Just no good answers other than to coach them up and play better.

And the real problem is that this is year 3 of being not very good and we're not much farther along than we were in year 1.

All I’m asking for is the team to rebound the basketball. If they can’t do that I can’t watch.

You say, "It helps to have guys experienced in the system". What is the system?

I guess you’d have to look at what he was doing his last few years at Greensboro, because here he’s just hanging on for dear life with his ragtag band.

UC -9. We’ll see. Who ever would have believe that when UC was finally -9 vs Louisville that it would be under these circumstances.

Well, OSU beat Texas Tech earlier...so maybe they are pretty good?

Also, that rock solid metric of the sports transitive scoring property would dictate that means we beat Louisville tonight.

might not be a bad idea. This season probably shot without good big men with offense and defensive skills.

UL is a dumpster fire. It's a complete mess there right now. We lose tonight it's a firing offense.

This will be a snoozer.
