They did. Great catch to win it, though. I will never understand why Mike Neu went with John Paddock at QB the whole year and refused to play Kaiel Kelly until the Miami game. He was dangerous running the football. Ball State struggled in so many games offensively and Neu just refused to adapt. It’s baffling to me.

Miami game = transition point? (Paddock to Kelly). Hope so. Unfortunately, that game may have been the “transfer” point (see ya’s: Steele, Kelly, etc.)

Brett Gabbert started 14 games as a freshman, then only 13 more over the next 3 years. He only started 4 games this year, only 2 of our 3 in the covid year. He has only played a few games fully healthy since his freshman year. He has been tough and tried to play through some pain several games. He is very good when healthy, good enough to start at many P5 programs, but they would be taking a big risk because he has been very injury prone. Because he only played in 4 games this season he got a redshirt and still has 2 years of eligibility remaining. This makes 3 straight seasons where our best football or basketball player has left. Last year Ivan Pace (MAC defensive Player of the year) transferred to UC with 2 years of eligibility remaining. He has been their best player and ESPN selected him as the midseason All American LB. Last year after basketball season, Dae Dae Grant who had over 1400 points with two years of eligibility left transferred to Duquesne. I have seen twice this year that he had 25 points in a game. Now Gabbert is leaving with 2 years left.

That hurts.

Gabbert is good - a gamer. Hopefully he finds a good fit.

Matchup is set - it's Miami versus UAB, who became bowl eligible earlier today.
