Not a thing. Maybe he’d like to be playing somewhere he has a chance to still be playing games in late November though. I’m sure it’s crossed his mind that a year ago he was taking an 11 win team to Fargo for an ESPN game and now he’s putting soup on shelves. I’m not implying anything negative about the kid earning a paycheck just highlighting the wild difference a year makes. Pretty good reflection on the state of the program. It’s also not lost on me that many of his peers at “big schools” are getting millions in endorsements while most FCS stars are just trying to get by.

Rydell came to ETSU in 2019. Academically it is possible he decided to graduate and move on.

I guess I didn’t watch the same football games as you guys did. Was Riddell that great? Are his numbers that great? Where is he going to go? He could be a star at the D2 level. I was hoping Quarles would use the portal to find someone better anyway. We need a taller QB with a better, more accurate arm.

quarles did use the portal, got May, he didn't pan out.

Sanders brought in at least 10 QBs, starter the transfer from Temple over Torbushs starter, that was a failure. Tried to star a jr college transfer and that failed. Only Riddle was able to have any success on the field. So his prowess at identifying quarterbacks were poor at best.

Riddell was a freshman all-american so lets not act like he can't get the job done in the right situation.

Riddell was certainly an asset to the team. He had some limitations and had to be put in the right position in order to succeed, but that is true of almost any quarterback at this level. As a transfer, he will again have to be careful to pick the right situation in order to be successful. It's a gamble, I could see him being benched at another FCS school next season if he chooses wrong.

Is he the 10th ETSU player in the Portal? How many of these were starters or had contributing playing time? I’m not relating to this new way of playing college football and basketball — essentially starting from scratch each year and trying to put a new team together that can play together. If I’m going into the Portal, it would seem I’ve been in contact with somebody at another school that wants me and has my position open on its roster. Or, I just dislike the coach, my fellow players, the school, my fellow classmates, my professors, et al so intensely that I’m going into Portal and hope upon hope that something good comes out of it? I’m not understanding how this Portal actually works where the rubber meets the road.

Bottom line is, we need a QB from the transfer portal. None of the guys on our roster were able to get it done. Quarles probably told them he was going to bring in 2 or 3 and they said see ya.

The big question is, was a great deal of Riddell's success because of Quay Holmes? Maybe even the 1/2 punch of Holmes and Saylors? I'm not sure, but he had 1 really good year and 2 bad ones. And the defense probably won a lot of games in 2021 for us, too.

When you make these comments on the coaches show over and over, what player, coach or fan whats to be associated with quarles.

Players need to make plays
I need to find better players

We have to think the community is just as upset as we are. Social media posts are negative towards Quarles. I try to listen to the local sports call in show on the Sports Monster but it is always three hours of vol rants. I have never heard the coaching situation for the Bucs ever mentioned. This board is about all we have.

Can see it on the horizon, the perfect storm — Quarles will blame the 2-9 2023 season on the Transfer Portal.

Hopefully he can stumble into a few good players on the recruiting trail.
