RE: The Transfer Portal Is Revving Its Engine...
Marshall fans remember Willie Korn, former 5 star QB and #5 QB overall in his class.
Came to Huntington, and within a year became a safety.
Relying on transfer QB is hella risky.
Good for JMU finding a huge need. Hopefully it works out. Seems like Marshall is going into 2023 with a seasoned second year upcoming stud and an all world RB. JMU also has to come to Huntington next year. We won't make it easy on em.

Apparently you’re new to American D1 FBS football. QB transfers aren’t unusual, and it might be argued, are actually necessary if your team is to be competitive.
I know they aren’t unusual but seems odd that you give up trying to develop your own. I get that it is necessary at times but not sure it should be a primary strategy. You will not build any type of depth or loyalty if you are constantly bringing in players that didn’t work out at one or two other programs. Plus, there may be reasons why they didn’t work out. I think it works sometimes like with Centeio but think it could backfire too.
Why are you so sure we’ve given up? Weve been fbs for breakfast only so far.
Our qb roster coming into this year consisted of centeio and 2 freshmen recruited to FCS.
Our qb roster next year will consist of those same two freshmen, one of whom has had a shot and seemed whoefully overwhelmed, the other is a true who has never played.
I know you scared Coastal fans are wishing we would just roll with them next year, but it was an absolutely no brainer to hit the portal for an experienced qb.
Let’s wait until we have had some fbs recruiting cycles to assume we are not interested in 4 year qbs.

1) No one is scared. Get over yourself.
2) You aren’t going to recruit good high school talent if you keep going to the portal.

Certainly not giving up. Alonza Barnett is a true freshman who our coaching staff and fanbase is very high on. But you saw how Billy Atkins, who was supposed to be the next.guy up, has looked. We need someone to at least compete with him for the job. But I wouldn't be surprised to see Atkins transfer down and either McCloud is the guy for two years or maybe we even bring in a second transfer to compete with him.
Edit: Weren't you in another thread talking about how we aren't gonna be any good once Centeio is gone? Maybe that wasn't you, but if so it's funny to criticize our lack of a reliable QB next year and then also criticize us bringing in a transfer.

Has perhaps, an entire football team entered the portal yet? Asking for a friend.

USM’s basketball team did last season. Ok that’s dramatic but it was a good chunk of their players

What’s funny is we’ve won 6 games this seasons already vs 7 all of last season. So was it the coach or was it the players.

Well that’s quite the conundrum then since the coach recruited the players. There is the fact that we have all new assistant coaches though. Maybe portal coaches are the answer….

The real answer is that we are doing what we have done the past several years. We brought in Vad Lee from Ga Tech and had Bryan Schor sit behind him for two years. Lee set records, but Schor won a championship his junior year and led us back to the finals his senior year.
Then, the next year, we brought in DiNucci from Pitt and had CoJo learn behind him. CoJo was finalist for FCS player of the year his senior year.
Also, both Lee and DiNucci were invited to NFL camps this year and CoJo got some looks, so we can point to that when talking to recruits. Add Centeio to this, and we have been pretty top notch at the position since 2014.

TXST has lost some major talent to the Portal today. Three defenders that total almost 200 tackles between them, our top WR, our kicker who set the school record for FGs made and accuracy, and another guy that is a NFL prospect.

We could use another RB to rotate along with Black and Palmer, and add some extra depth... I see that he's being followed by our offensive coordinator on Twitter

If he does end up transferring, I doubt its a lateral move.

Agreed. He will probably go P5 or Sun Belt West.

I have always found it interesting that ODU’s first ever scholarship signee ultimately transferred to JMU, and then really never played or made an impact at JMU. At least this player has a legit resume.
Oh, and it needs to be said out loud…so long as this ODU RB transfers to a winning program it won’t qualify as a “lateral move”
