This team just seems too interested in filling out their offensive individual stat sheet than playing as a team to win. Of course to win you have to play defense. I haven't seen that so far last year. Last year's team was way below this one's talent level but they had way more scrap and toughness in them.

You have no basis to claim the motivations of the players. It is just as likely (actually most likely) that these players are more skilled at offense than at defense. There seems to be reasonably balanced scoring and definite interest in passing/ distribution- way less selfish team in that sense than some years past.

I agree with the gist of these comments.

The games I've watched featured more passing then typically seen on EMU MBB.

Look at shooting percentages! We shoot around 40% our opponents shoot 50% or better. Reminds of the geniks teams! yes we averaged over 40 points a game but gave around 45!

At least these were close losses with the exception of the Bradley game. But once frustration starts setting in, things can really spiral out of control fast… the coaching staff will need to right the ship fast.

As for the aura of the Emoni Bates season, I think that is already over in terms of drawing anymore fans than the initial bump in season tickets. But hopefully this season turns around so those additionsl fans will enjoy their experience and keep coming after Emoni is drafted to the NBA in the spring.

Surely the season can turn around and hopefully it will. Just hope the players hang-in there, and Heath gives them the tools that will give them confidence that they can win.

I suggest you look at the assist totals of opponents in games against us compared to the number of assists on our team. I recall we finished last in assists in the conference last year. Also look at turnovers by us and steals made by other teams against us this season. In terms of motivation on playing defense look at the results. We shot poorly last year especially 3s. How we doing this year?

Fans can have opinions. They don't have to agree with yours. But perhaps you have an explanation for the gap between talent level and actual results? Also there is a difference between being a critical fan and a fanboy.

So says the guy who said the players appeared to have quit in this most recent game.

I did NOT watch the Cancun games. I don't think anyone paid 30 bucks for one month of flo.

RE: Thanksgiving Game Week Men's Basketball
Happy Thanksgiving to all EMU fans!

By watching EMU games and reading box scores it's not hard to see what EMU's problems are and how they can be corrected.

Overall, it offense is good shooting almost 50 percent on two, 36 percent on three's and 75 percent at the foul-line. EMU players could do even better if they shot more three's, score at the hoop more and shooting less 2-point jump shots that they and other teams shoot poorly. The exception is Acuff, who should shoot few three's.

On defense, opponents are shooting a whopping 60 percent on two's and 37.6 percent on three's, and making more three's than EMU does.

EMU can remedy opponents high two-point shooting percentage by starting Randle (he's EMU only big that stat wise defends well) inside at the rim on defense. EMU can reduce both the number of opponent three's taken and made, by forcing opponents further out and making them dribble. As teams shoot a lower percentage on jump-shots off the dribble.

EMU are committing 4 more fouls per game and opponents are making almost 6 more foul shots per game than EMU does. EMU committing 25 fouls in their 6th game is inexcusable. The coaching staff has to teach players how to defend without fouling. Not hard to do.

Talent ultimately wins out. I believe this is a talented group and things have to start looking up. It is all about the MAC season now which hasn't even started so I hope no one is jumping off the bandwagon already.

I think Heath is too good of a coach to not figure that out. I am not ready to panic yet.

Agree. Hope Heath returns Noah to the PG position. As ball needs to be in his hands, not Acuff.

EMU would roll if Heath would just deny the three-ball and have Randle defend the rim. EMU will not lose games allowing opponents to shoot two-point jump shots the entire game.

With EMU averaging 77 ppg thru 6 games, there's no reason EMU should have a 1-5 record, nor not mostly win going forward.

Time to get Randle playing more and keep him at the rim, defend the three-ball, not foul, and put the ball in Noah's hands. All four things have to a priority.

Have a feeling that Pranger will really help the team when he returns.

The ladies are 4-0 and playing 8. Maybe the should do the same using only 8. I think one reason we are not winning is that there's is only one ball and to many that want it.

Maybe the Murphy zone. We score 77. They score 50. 02-13-banana

BTW, NBA draft guru Sam Venencie has Emoni #34 int his 100 list.

34th pick is in the second round of NBA draft. I can see him possibly going late second-round.
