If they would approve the waiver they would have enough for the Bowl. If you don't get the approval, but they are
scrapping Bowls for lack of participants that is just flat-out BS. imo
They aren't canceling the existing Frisco bowl. They are just not adding a 2nd one due to lack of available teams.

The way I'm understanding it, the waiver has already been approved so they are going bowling even if they were to lose to Valpo. From another article, a major reason why they wanted to add a final home game was to honor their seniors.

Yup, I just think it would be hilarious if they lost to Valpo.

That’s what they say, but the game that was canceled was October 22nd, they had a home game after that on November 12th against that other FCS powerhouse 1-10 Lamar. The seniors should’ve been honored that day, their last scheduled home day like everyone does. This was about weaseling their way into a bowl game. They should be so proud.

I have relatives who live in Las Cruces and the actually believe that NMSU is an awesome football team. They used to kid me about my alma mater being FCS and how NMSU would destroy us on the field. I would tell them that if the opportunity ever presents itself and JMU winds up playin NMSU, I would like to bet every dime I have on the game. They would just chuckle.
For that reason, I regret Cig not accepting NMSU's offer last week. I believe we would pound the Aggies into the turf, like 84-0.

Yeah - I have many close relatives who are NMSU alums and I would have loved to tease them when JMU destroys their team. Too bad.

Overall I-A Bowl Status - 11/20/22
NMSU must feel good about their purchased blowout. Now they can feel better about having 6 wins instead of 5 going into their bowl game.

NMSU should be proud they’ve earned the bowl game after this statement game was against non-scholarship Pioneer League Valparaiso and their other FCS win was against powerhouse Lamar, don’t let the 1-10 record fool you.

My friends, I get it. It sucks. But we knew what we signed up for. Rules are rules. That doesn’t make the rules right, but we accepted those rules when we accepted the invitation.
We had the option of staying put or moving up with these limitations. We knew the terms and conditions ahead of time, and accepted them.

Overall I-A Bowl Status - 11/20/22
My rip on NMSU has nothing to do with us not being eligible. I just find it hilarious their desperate efforts to make sure they make a Bowl even though they suck.

We should start hearing Bowl announcements tomorrow.
RTD confirmed JMU filed an appeal/waiver. Still a chance NCAA does the right thing.

We keep hearing that but it seems every other school that filed a waiver request got quick and well publicized responses. Not that I don’t believe we filed a request, but I’d like to see something more substantial.

Not sure what more you expect. Cig said on the record JMU was appealing to be bowl eligible, and still had some hope.

Not for nothing, but we also had hope last year that the CAA would let us compete in the postseason tournaments and we all know how that worked out. I don't think we are going bowling this year. I believe our best hope is to be granted a waiver to have this season considered our second year and for our FBS transition to be one year instead of the normal two. Sucks for this year's senior class to not be in our first bowl, but they laid a ground work of success on which future classes can build.

Agree, the odds are low. But JB basically said earlier in the year that the team deserves JMU doing all they can, and I believe we are.
Could be far worse. We could have been SHSU or JSU playing an FCS schedule this year with no hopes of postseason for two years. We are well positioned to shorten the transition to one year, and be a full FBS member next year.

So…if this weren’t our first FBS year and through some twist of fate we managed to lose to Troy (Ha. Hahaha. Ha.) in the CCG, we’d be playing ECU in Birmingham. I’d love to beat Mike Houston silly again.

RE: Overall I-A Bowl Status - 11/20/22
FWIW, here are the SB bowl games listed in order of when they'll be played. All will be on the ESPN flagship channel. A few of these opponents would be interesting to match up against if we were eligible (UTSA, Houston, ECU). Others not so much. I don't think I'd be too excited to go to one of those Alabama locales for the game, either.
Troy vs. UTSA: Cure Bowl Orlando, Fla. Dec. 16 3pm
Southern Miss vs. Rice: LendingTree Bowl Mobile, Ala. Dec. 17 5:45pm
Marshall vs. UConn: Myrtle Beach Bowl Conway, S.C. Dec. 19 2:30pm
Western Kentucky vs. South Alabama: New Orleans Bowl New Orleans, La. Dec. 21 9pm
Houston vs. Louisiana: Independence Shreveport, La. Dec. 23 3pm
Buffalo vs. Georgia Southern: Camellia Bowl Montgomery, Ala. Dec. 27 12pm
Coastal Carolina vs. East Carolina: Birmingham Birmingham, Ala. Dec. 27 6:45pm
No Frisco Bowl in the mix for the SB. It will showcase CUSA and MW runners up North Texas & Boise State.

RE: Overall I-A Bowl Status - 11/20/22
The weeknight games are rough and a big reason why those bowl games have empty seats galore.
Add in that some of of the weekday games are actually in the daytime when people are working…yuck.
JMU isn’t missing anything by not getting the waiver and probably saving a lot of money by avoiding the 3 or 4 days of travel costs.
The Dukes will get their chance next year to experience the bowl system, then can start gunning for the 12 team CFP in 2024.
