Two items:

1) USA Rugby Eagles played to a 16-16 draw with Portugal (Portugal!!!) yesterday, bombing out of the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France and sending Portugal into the last spot.

2) Baseball trivia--Who was the last switch-hitter to win a major league MVP award?

I hope these two items are related. No idea but I’ll say it must have been a rugby/baseball multi sport athlete.

Or a Portuguese MLB baseballer.

Neither of which I can remember so I’ll further deduce it must have happened closer to 69 or 70 than to 75 (around when I first started paying attention to such silliness).

I take that this indicates that Portugal is the UTSA of this competition?

Chipper Jones won in 1999. Has there been another switch hitter since then?

USA rugby is such a joke and needs to clean house. And to think we are hosting the World Cup in 2031…

Oops, I screwed up, should have asked last American League MVP. Jones is correct for the question as asked.

I watch them and can't figure out what they are trying to do. It's a bunch of individuals without a team concept, trying to play what is the ultimate team game. Part of the reason is that their opportunities to train as a team are limited, but this goes far beyond that.

One would think that the creation of a professional competition would have spurred significant improvement, but if anything they ave gone the other way.

Just that Portugal is not typically thought of as a rugby power. Soccer, yes. Rugby, no.

I am sure if you asked that question in Montrose 35 years ago, you might be really surprised at the accurate answers.
