RE: @UCONN - GAME 3
I’m still pissed off about our offense. This has to freaking change and change now. If we have to change personnel, then so be it. You have to be able to score the ball. If we have to work on ball and player movement, so be it. UCONN simply exposed us and it is up to the staff to adjust. It needs to happen yesterday!!

Not saying it won't be solved, but our offense is a real problem.

We'll see. The competition does matter. Hofstra just lost to St Mary's and only put up 48 points. Oklahoma, UConn and UNC are pretty good competition for our first three games. Especially when you consider that our offense is built around isolation and driving to the basket. The size of these teams meant they didn't have to cheat on the drive and could sit on the guys waiting for the outlet pass.

If this anemic offense continues as we now move to playing, High Point, ECU, Coastal, Campbell and Jacksonville it will be much more concerning coming into conference play. The optimist in me thinks JThomas has gained the confidence to drive on anyone in this strecth and that he's going to be nightmare on the drive in the CAA. Let him start and play a lot and he could easily avg. 15 ppg. Combine him with Shy and Traz and we could have the three legit scorers you need to compete on offense. He's also the best passer on the team and sees the open man better than anyone. I also think Hodge could be a surprise breakout player and I hope he'll get some PT in the rest of these OOC games. I have a feeling Siddle felt he wasn't built to handle the physicality of these top level teams.

I still think our starters should be:

Thomas, Phillips, Ross, White, Kelly

or

Thomas, Phillips, White, VanDH, Kelly

We have got to get some offensive punch on the floor at the same time and these are the guys who can do it. We need a PG who can score and Newby isn't that guy.

Are these pay games ? If so it makes a little sense to me .
Everybody on the planet knows you have to make threes in todays game and whoever the shooters are-they have to play . I like Ross and Hodge but I/m not sure Hodge is ready to play a lot of minutes at this level on both ends . He can score so maybe some spot minutes . I think Ross is solid now and he could be excellent .

I greatly dislike that our offense is built around isolation. We don’t have the players on offense for that to be successful.

The few times i've seen Hodge on the floor he looked really good. With his height and quickness he could bring a lot to the floor as a guard. I think he was bringing the ball up the court when he played, so he has good handles.

I think I read where Nolan played some PG for one of his teams but could be off on that. He did look like he could handle in the small sample size I have seen. Both freshmen look like they have good skills and size for guards.

It’s early so there is time for guys to get rolling that haven’t gotten going yet. Hopefully they all will start clicking soon.

I saw him play here in Wilmington vs Hoggard and he didn't handle the ball well vs pressure and was certainly not playing PG . He is really thin and needs to get stringer but I like him a lot. He and Ross are really good looking prospects and I think Ross is game ready right now.

I'm wondering whether, with the numbers we have on the roster this year, whether Coach has redshirting Hodge in mind?

I think we will see Ross in the starting lineup pretty soon. My first thought was VDH, but I think Ross at the 3 now is the way to go. Desperately need outside threats on the court.Leaves White at the 4 and Kelly at the 5.

Not sure about that and simply because in todays world players have a lot more power than years past. He might just enter the portal and move on but I personally think he could really benefit from it. He could help some this year in a limited role and my guess is it is something that has been talked about .

Got it. You can only redshirt if the player buys in.

As it turns out , Hodge is playing tonight. So there you go....

No reason to redshirt just because you are a freshman and not getting a lot of PT. If you come to a team where you can start, or get a lot of PT as a freshman, the team probably isn't very good. His time wil come just like the time for Thomas is coming now. He can work his way into a starting spot in the future and IMO he looks like he is going to be one of our better players.
