If we have to change personnel, then so be it. You have to be able to score the ball. If we have to work on ball and player movement, so be it. UCONN simply exposed us and it is up to the staff to adjust. It needs to happen yesterday!!
The Seahawk Perch wrote a head-scratchingly upbeat article about the Uconn game.
Not saying it won't be solved, but our offense is a real problem.
We'll see. The competition does matter. Hofstra just lost to St Mary's and only put up 48 points. Oklahoma, UConn and UNC are pretty good competition for our first three games. Especially when you consider that our offense is built around isolation and driving to the basket. The size of these teams meant they didn't have to cheat on the drive and could sit on the guys waiting for the outlet pass.
If this anemic offense continues as we now move to playing, High Point, ECU, Coastal, Campbell and Jacksonville it will be much more concerning coming into conference play. The optimist in me thinks JThomas has gained the confidence to drive on anyone in this strecth and that he's going to be nightmare on the drive in the CAA. Let him start and play a lot and he could easily avg. 15 ppg. Combine him with Shy and Traz and we could have the three legit scorers you need to compete on offense. He's also the best passer on the team and sees the open man better than anyone. I also think Hodge could be a surprise breakout player and I hope he'll get some PT in the rest of these OOC games. I have a feeling Siddle felt he wasn't built to handle the physicality of these top level teams.
I still think our starters should be:
Thomas, Phillips, Ross, White, Kelly
or
Thomas, Phillips, White, VanDH, Kelly
We have got to get some offensive punch on the floor at the same time and these are the guys who can do it. We need a PG who can score and Newby isn't that guy.
