Couldn’t read the article, but just the gist of the headline I saw flash up before the paywall doesn’t look good for us as a program with our history of funding issues for football….

Pay or players and recruits will be lost ...
[/I’m sure you have heard or read about donors at some other schools providing several million dollars to their student-athletes,” Veatch wrote. “To be clear, we’re not asking to be at the top of the ‘NIL arms race’ at Memphis. However, we do believe we will need our student-athletes collectively earning $2-3 million dollars per year in NIL opportunities to remain competitive.

Put directly, we need to embrace NIL in order to remain competitive. Put even more directly, if we don’t start embracing NIL at a higher level by December, we may very well start losing players to other programs. That is the stark reality.”

That money wont work. Dont ***** about this we all need to do our part. They need some guys with deep pockets, but all of us with small pockets can help and maybe equal one big fish.
If you care at all about Tiger sports you need to be participating. Takes less than 5 minutes!

RE: NIL letter to Ambassadors
I knew NIL would fukk up college sports and it has

It's just crappy semi-pro sports now with the players going to the highest bidder....

In theory, NIL sounds great and fair but it isn't. Without a propped up system engineered to pay ALL players only a few of them would have made significant money.

Now a bunch of fake NIL opportunities will have to be created and funded to attract and keep players

I warned everyone from day 1 that this is exactly how it would turn out.

RE: NIL letter to Ambassadors
I thought NIL money was paid to player for the use of their name, image, and likeness....so the question is when are we going to see rules/guidelines put into place to prevent athletes from basically just receiving money to play for a certain team? I know all of these players getting paid are not sponsoring a business or in a commercial or on t-shirts being sold to the public.

While technically there are NIL guidelines like that in place, after what the Supreme Court said I doubt things will stop there. I think Pay for Play for some schools is more likely to happen as the revenues keep increasing. The B1G's commissioner has already said he wants to see that fixed. Doesn't mean it will, but having him openly say it helps open the door for that direction.

Don’t say that you didn’t see it coming. Without those fat Big 12 checks, you are going to pick one major sport to remain relevant.

Not sure why people are acting like this is something new and different than the way it has always been.

RE: NIL letter to Ambassadors
If we increase our NIL money to be competitive, other schools will increase theirs to make us non-competitive again. It's a viscous cycle. Sadly, we don't have enough whales and the ones we do have aren't big enough to make us competitive.

Because it is new and different and not at all like it was before. Certain players families were funneled money, yes but now every single player - even your depth players will have to be paid PLUS its now all out on the open.

I was referring to the comment above about the disparity between different conferences regarding revenue. The difference between the G5 and the P5 money has always existed.
