I couldn't find any rule, but when I played and coached officials never stopped play due to a player losing a shoe. It's different, of course, when a player is injured.

Rather than stop play on the inbound pass or during transition, they forced him to play a full possession with one shoe. I hope the coaches told him if that happens again just stop and put it back on. Playing a possession 4 on 5 is better than him slipping on his sock and getting hurt.

Or just call timeout. 01-wingedeagle I know those are valuable, but in this case I think it was warranted.

I assumed it was like an injury where if there isn't an immediate scoring opportunity the refs are supposed to stop play. If you're right that seems pretty shortsighted. It'll probably only get changed when eventually a notable team is screwed over by it. Forced to play a key possession late with no timeouts and over the limit. Or a notable player gets hurt.

In general it felt like the refs didn't particularly like Carry. Probably the reputation he's built hurting him. There was a weird exchange in the second half where #1 one Chicago started shoving Carry with his chest while players were lining up for an inbounds play. Carry was just standing there and pushed him off of him a couple times. Finally the ref stepped in to talk to them and the whole time he was talking to him the guy kept chesting him up and leaning on him. Never seen that happen without the ref either throwing a tech, telling the coach to sub him out, or really chewing him out. Then play started and the guy went into him hard. Carry held his ground and it got rough. It wasn't until the guy got his elbow extended up around Carry's face that they finally called the foul. I think everyone assumed it was going to be called on him... But it was called on Carry. It was really something. Usually 10 times out of 10 when two players are getting into a shoving match the call either goes on the one initiating it or the one that gets his arms extended or is called a double foul. The only thing that made sense to me was refs who came in tired of Carry. Which we'll sadly probably have to deal with this year

Saw that exchange also and was equally confounded.
All 3 games this week officiating was awful. Saturday not as apparent due to the blowout. Officials seem to be making a point. They are especially quick to call technicals. It sucks and takes away greatly from the experience.
