RE: UT vs Oakland game thread
Attendance isnt and wont be good until January at the earliest. Me like many need football season/money to be flushed first. But for bigger name Saturday contests Ill be there. The same goes for wbb. The heat of the season is when we start to average around 5k. Ill be there Sunday for Duke.

Even though no HL schools play football, so they should have decent resources for BB, it's just not a good league. The majority of the schools didn't exist before 1960.

I can remember when the Oakland Univ. Pioneers came to Centennial around 1976-1977 time period (maybe 1978). I assumed they were from Oakland Calif. and it may have been an exhibition game, I don't remember. Toledo beat them pretty easily. I kept wondering why they would have traveled all that distance just to play Toledo. It didn't make sense. Toledo played them again several times over the next few years and I never made the connection they were from Michigan. Even after Kampe left Toledo, I was not aware he took the head coaching job at Oakland. I just knew he played at BG. (He scored 112 points in the 64 games he played (1.8 avg) 33 of those points came from the free throw line where he shot 33-69 for 47.8%. He was mostly a kicker and punter on the football team)

In looking this up - I also learned that Kampe's dad was a guard on the UMich football team in 1947 that won the Rose Bowl and a national championship. His brother was a 2-year letter winner at Michigan as a DB. I added this in because it is somewhat relevant to this board since Kampe was an assistant coach at Toledo for 6 years and did a number of the post game interviews for Nichols. He was not considered for the head coaching job after Nichols retired. That was when Jay Eck was brought in. But, Kampe was an assistant coach on the last two Toledo teams that made it to the NCAA tourney in 1979 and 1980.

Oakland BB has been around since about 1967. They opened
the Rockets' schedule in 1977. Jim Mitchell was their new HC, after a couple of years as an Assistant at Cincinnati.
UT won by about 50 points. That was a memorable season for the Rockets with a win at UM and the 5 OT loss to CMU.

pretty good game. EMU is wildly inconsistent but has some obvious talent. They had 2 possession leads in the closing minute or so of both regulation and OT and found a way not to win twice. If they develop some cohesion and maturity they will be tough. Oakland is gonna have a solid year. Their star guard is not 100% and they are finding out that a couple of their P6 transfers are not really that good. Once they get healthy and solidify their rotations they will compete in the upper tier of the Horizon.

LOLz. Not this fake news again. '21-'22 was the 2nd highest attendance (4,533) in the last 7 years (behind 4,771 in '18-'19).

And Savage is a quarter full most nights? LOLOLOLOL. That would be about 1,900 people in attendance.
