TK On Tonight's Coaches Show
The following are some interesting comments from TK and Seth Milner tonight on the Coaches Show:

* TK was ecstatic in his praise of Tyler Cochran calling him one of his smartest and hardest working players he has ever coached. While he will get “starters minutes”, he doesn’t mind not starting and all he cares about is helping the team reach their goals. While somewhat reserved, both players and coaches love him.

* Despite the perception, he thinks that Toledo is a very good team on the interior despite their lack of size and called Milner, Shumate, Dennis and Cochran extremely difficult to defend inside.

* He’s pleased with AJ Edu's performance so far and thinks he can provide 10-15 quality minutes right now but would love to see that increase as he gets more acclimated to playing in actual games.

* He thinks that Kooper Jacoby and Javan Simmons will benefit tremendously from sitting out this season since they would most likely not be getting much playing time based on the current rotation and thus waste a year of eligibility.

* Bringing in Former 20+ NBA Assistant Coach Mike Wells for a couple of weeks during the season to analyze practices and games to provide a different “set of eyes” to see what is happening on the court.

* Said Oakland is very talented with 4 Transfers coming in and that they will have to do a much better job of handling the Grizzles Zone Defense then they did last season in their loss on the road.

* Setric Milner said that the team culture is at an all-time high, and while they are locked into the “one game at a time” mantra, they are hungry and focused in on getting to the NCAA Tournament for TK.

* Said his improvement on fouling shooting from two years ago (68%) until now is due to TK telling him that it was unacceptable and needed to get better. He credits repetition and yoga for a lot of his improvement which resulted in him shooting 78% from the Free Throw line last season and over 80% so far this season.

Thanks for this BBJ.

Related, and talked about in the other thread (rankings);

Twitter liink retweeted by UT BB

I don't know if that will work or not, and I'm not sure what poll it is, but FWIW.

I really hate to get too excited because...well we all know. But I'm excited. I like what I see.

We scored 93 points on a very good team, and only shot 14 threes. 19 TOs, is way too many, but 7 were in the first few minutes. We caused 22. Out rebounded by 4 to a bigger team (not bad). 21 points off the bench, but the Farmer thing is like a shell game. He didn't have a point. If Cochran starts, that number goes to 8. 7 people with over 10 minutes (Farmer was 09:55 so I'm counting him). 10 minutes (around 5 each) from AJ and Andre. This is new, no matter how you juggle the numbers.

Again, this was against a very good team, and it's early. There is plenty of room to grow. Don't get cocky. This could be a special year.

Ray J and the linebackers. When is the last time our 2 and 3 guy look like these two? And Ray J is as sweet as we've had, even if he does miss a few runners. Basketball is a contact sport. After a while some get tired of getting contacted.

With Ray J, Farmer, Moss, Cochran, Maddox, you have to like our front court. They all have something to add. Maybe the best in years.

I agree that Cochran has got to be a fan favorite. His athleticism for a guy his size is truly amazing. I would love to know the story of how he ended up at Toledo after already playing for 2 other MAC teams.

By the way, does anyone else ever get confused between Devin Maddox and Dante Maddox? I sometimes forget which one plays which sport.

RayJ and Cochran grew up in adjacent west Chicago suburbs and became friends in youth sports. Cochran played for 2 losing MAC teams with bad chemistry and just wanted to play for a winner that played the right way. He and RayJ were in communication on his transfer although I don't know exactly how it went down. TK said in another interview that he sat down w the returnees (including Rollins before he was certain about staying in the draft) and asked them if they wanted to go after transfer portal guys that would make us deeper but might spread out the shots and minutes and all the returnees say to go for it.

Seems like CMU always had a couple 6’-6’2” muscular guards like Cochran who gave us fits. I love his game. He’s the kind of guy that fans of other teams hate but his fans love him. He gives us a dimension (or two) we haven’t often had off the bench.

I think Toledo recruited him out of high school as well.

Yes, Toledo did recruit him hard in high school. He did not choose Toledo originally, but made his way here eventually. Same story with Dennis, Maddox, and Millner. Glad that they all realized that Toledo was the right place for them after all.

Loves talking himself up, TK the epitome of average... gets beat in big games save UAB.... a high school coach could do what he has done... go to the NCAA already big talker.. blah blah blah

While I get your frustration about not getting to the NCAA Tournament, but saying TK is an "average coach" and that a High School Coach could do what he has done is way over the top! You don't win as many regular season games and regular season championships as he has and be an average coach. Getting to an NCAA Tournament is the only thing missing on his resume and stamping himself as among the best Mid Major Coaches out there.

TK often praises his players and his assistant coaches. Is that what you mean by "talking himself up?" If not, I have no idea what you mean because I have never heard him say anything that could be interpreted as "talking himself up." He promotes the program, his players, his assistant coaches, but never himself.
