9-4 Prediction This Season?
Starting with week 12. I really think we're gonna win our last two games and win our Bowl Game. I'm not sure who we're going to play. I really don't want to play a CUSA team. I'd kind of like the Myrtle Beach bowl as it would be a pseudo home game for us with all the West Virginian's that live down there. We have a really good chance to finish going 9-4. Anyway what do you all think?

RE: 9-4 Prediction This Season?
With the way this year has gone, anything is possible. We could win out or we could not win another game. Laborn being hurt worries me. I expect the defense to show up each game, but the offense...I just don't know. I certainly wouldn't put money on us winning the next two.

Laborn did look dinged up last game. But I think Cam is maturing as a QB and he has some wheels. Maybe Turner, Paine and Cam can all help Laborn out with the carries.

Have a feeling we will split 1-1. But hoping for 2-0. As for the Bowl. Anyone except CUSA or
MAC. Which is exactly what we are going to get, unfortunately.

It's Senior Day this Saturday. I really feel good about this game. Now we have Ali back and Cam is getting better every game. We now have THREE really good running threats with Laborn, Ali, and Fancher. We might not even need to throw a pass on Saturday! I like this matchup.

Is 8-4 or possibly 9-4 good enough to get Huff another job? I'm guessing no, but I really hope so.

If Huff can go 9-4 his second year ever as a HC, then we might hope he hangs around a bit. The SBC is a tougher conference than CUSA.

Sure it is. But once you lose me, it's hard to get me back, and he really lost me during some of the debacles earlier this season. Winning these last 4 in a row does not remove the bad taste from my mouth entirely. I'm still far from convinced that he's the answer to get us back to consistently playing for conference championships. As good as this November was, we were out of it before November ever started really.

To a point I agree. We had a weird season for our QB's. Henry was the answer but after ND something happened to him. It was eluded to that he had multiple concussions, so maybe that was part of it. Cam came in and started improving each and every game. If Cam had started the season we probably have a 10-2 record (with losses to ND and Coastal). I was "off board" after the BUGS loss, but after the JMU win I was back "On Board". In conference we lost to the East and West division leaders and to last years Champion. We had a lot of distractions last season and the spring season. New coach, new coaching staff, Wells transfers to VPI, 20 new transfers, new conference, new AD, Ali gets injured, new QB (twice with Colombi and Cam), court issues with CUSA. That's a lot to deal with as a team. I think they handled as best they could.

Cam came in and started improving each and every game. If Cam had started the season we probably have a 9-3 record (with a loss at ND, Troy and Coastal). I was "off board" after the BUGS loss, but after the JMU win I was back "On Board". In conference we lost to the East and West division leaders and to last years Champion. It was a weird season over all. Part of it is I'm sick and tired of being 'average', and really I consider 8-4 to be average. This felt much like a 'Doc' year, where we'd have a winning record, but really nothing to play for come November as we were already out of the running to win the conference. And part of that is my fault, I got my hopes up just too high I guess. After ND and then going up quick 14-0 against BG, I looked at my wife and said something to the effect that this is going to be a special type year, maybe even eclipsing 1999. Then the rug got pulled out from under my feet. :-) That's been hard for me to get over!

As to the rest, that's life. Every single season there are injuries, and with the idiotic transfer portal and NIL nonsense, we'd better get used to new players all over the field, and losing folks we were counting on each year as they go to other places. If Huff can't navigate those issues, then he isn't the right guy. Sure, conferences changes, AD, etc were happening too, but I don't think that had a ton of impact on the team and their preparation for the season.

I think that 16-10 even with this year’s 9-4 record isn’t enough. You can’t lose to BGSU, play 2 fcs teams, and lose 3 conference games.

Oh, and I heard that we paid Columbi $600K to play (now sit) this year. Don’t know how true that is.

RE: 9-4 Prediction This Season?
Huff has 2 more years on his contract. He's improved from last year as a first year HC which is a pretty steep learning curve in it's self. Next year should be winning our division at the least. But I will support him barring any more melt downs on the field. We played really sloppy at times against GaState. Hard to believe the O was that undisciplined on the last game of the season. There should be no stupid penalties and shooting yourself in the foot on the last half of the season. We have a chance to go 9-4 in his second season which is what I had hoped for at the beginning of the season.

RE: 9-4 Prediction This Season?
When was the last time we finished the season this strong? Our normal MO is to start out strong and peter out over the course of the season as the clowns run the circus with locker room revolts and fights in the parking lot. This team did the opposite and that should mean something to us. It definitely sent a different message to the fans.

RE: 9-4 Prediction This Season?
We finished strong. But being honest it still hasn't washed the bad taste out of my mouth. And even though the bowl game was never really in doubt we looked far from good for much of the game. Maybe it's foolish of me, but I'm still kinda hoping the 9-4 record is enough to get Huff a job somewhere else. Perhaps that's not fair, but I'm still more disgusted from when we were 4-4 5 games ago than I am happy that we won the last 5.

RE: 9-4 Prediction This Season?
2021 - 8-5 Bowl Loss - Best Win: Navy - Finished season flat as an unused bicycle innertube
2022 - 9-4 Bowl Win - Best Win - #8 Notre Dame @ ND - Finished season winning 5 in a row and 6 of the last 7. That says more to me than anything. And to hear the players comments who had been there in 2020 specifically mention that they "Played for one another" and that there were "no cliques". Huff has changed the culture.

We just need a QB.

Well sure, I'd take the 22 season over the 21 season. But at the same time it was another year when we weren't playing meaningful football in November. We were 4-4 at that time and out of any conference title talk. I'm sick of that happening. Way too often the past 2 decades the games in November haven't really mattered from the standard we should be striving towards, that being Playing for Championships. This year really bothered me too as I felt like we were on the verge of getting some national attention that we used to get back in the late 90s and early 2000s, and haven't sniffed again other than a very brief time in 2014. We took what could have been magical when we were sitting at 2-0 and pissed it down the drain at BGSU and Troy and then took a further dump at it against Louisiana and Coastal. At that point we were out of any discussion of national recognition and any discussion of playing for the conference title. Therefore this season was a failure to me. 5 straight wins, while certainly better than limping in the end of the season like last year, does not void the disappointment or the crap show in our losses. I'm not saying we have to win the conference for it to be successful season. But I AM saying that if we are out of the running when November starts, then no amount of winning from that point on will make things better for me. Yeah, I know we can argue that 9-4 is 9-4, and when the losses take place shouldn't matter. But to me it does.

In addition, I did not see the growth this year that I think we will need to win going forward. While we won the games, we looked really poor at times while doing so. 12 points against ODU is not acceptable. Only beating GAST by 5. Looking inept often against UCONN. While we won, I hardly saw anything that really makes me think our team improved and put itself on firm footing to be better in 2023. Yes, we were only 33 points away from being undefeated, but we were also 17 points away from being 5-7.

Most don't realize that we were 125th!!! out of 131 teams in red zone scoring offense, only getting points on 70.27% of our red zone attempts. While our offense occasionally put up some yards, we were terrible at getting points. Our offensive playcalling was often questionable, and that goes beyond just having a poor QB.

We need to replace some of our coaches, including Legg and Tricket in my opinion. Memphis, where our prior OC went, was 29th in red zone scoring offense, and 22nd in points per game, averaging 35.1 points versus us at 24.5 points per game, good for 92nd. I was happy to see him go to Memphis, but perhaps he wasn't the issue really, it may be Huff, just like it was likely Doc before him.

Point being, our rolling off 5 wins in a row is a bit of a paper tiger, and is maybe making us feel a bit too rosy about just where we stand as a program. I am NOT a debbie downer, and am usually VERY optimistic about my Herd. But I'm just not sold on Huff at all.

We haven't had a 9 win season since 2018.

2022 = 9-4 Bowl Win
2021 = 7-6 Bowl Loss
2020 = 7-3 Bowl Loss
2019 = 8-5 Bowl Loss
2018 = 9-4 Bowl Win

We're seeing progress and finishing strong, which is completely new to us. A second year head coach going 9-4 in the second strongest G5 league in the nation! And we had one of our biggest wins in school history against ND. Am I still "gun shy"? Yes I am, but I might see a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel.

The SBC SOS rank was the highest for the G5!
