My question for you guys is how good is Toledo this year that they dismantled Oakland so bad????

I went to the Toledo- Oakland game. Toledo is a legit top 25-35 team. I would pick Toledo to win the MAC followed by Kent, Akron, Ohio

I'll agree with you about Toledo and Kent. Akron and Ohio U lets waits and see.

RE: Game Week: @Oakland
I am expecting so much more from the basketball team. We’re heading towards a 0.500 season unless there’s improvement in these areas:

1) The body language of our players has shown why we start getting waxed during the first halves of the past two games. We’re coming out lethargic, little energy and having body language indicating we’re not going to have to play hard to win or we’re just not interested in this game today. I expect so much more from Stan on prepping this team and playing with fire in their belly like they did against UofM.

2) I’m very disappointed in our lack of fundamentals on defense. After we work so hard to retake the lead and build momentum on our side, we leave a shooter wide open after a ball screen and forget the defensive assignments. Are we a) slipping the screen, b) switching on the screen, c) continuing to go over the top of screens etc. Then when a shot is missed, one or two players DON’T block out which enables another offensive possession or a simple putback that deflates the other 3 teammates fighting for every inch to gain position to block their man out when the shot goes up. 4) Why are we not Denying the low post position? Instead we played behind 4 (Trevorn) and challenged him after he caught the ball in the paint which lead to fouls or easy shots!

3) Who is the leader of this team? It’s not Emoni! It’s not Acuff! It’s Farrakhan. At the end of the game, why in the F$@k is Noah inbounding to Emoni who has shown he struggles handling the ball when under close out pressure. The ball has to be inbounded to Farrakhan who CAN handle the pressure!! Why is Stan getting the ball to Lovejoy a true freshman at end of game on the baseline when Farrakhan and Acuff are in the game. Why in OT did we not call timeout (heard we had one) so that we could set up getting the ball to Farrakhan and setting up a nice shot? The time management was very, very poorly coached yesterday.

4) Offensively, Stan played right into the zone scheme. Our best shooters were roaming around the perimeter to start the game. Instead Emoni and Farrakhan should have been placed in the corners for catch and shoot opportunities - this didn’t happen enough!

Listen, I believe if this team plays to it’s potential, we can finish #4 or 5 in the conference but if this team doesn’t 1) Come out with excessive intensity and fire in their bellies to win and play exhaustively hard 2) play with defensive intensity, scrappiness and be fundamentally sound and 3) get better time management and role designation, it’s going to be a wasted season.

Some of you can disagree all you want, but the way we’re losing these games is alarming! Back to back lethargic starts with disinterested body language has got to S.T.O.P !! Hoping for better coaching preparation and player energy at EVERY SINGLE GAME!!

Young team is learning to win on the road. Everything comes down to winning in the MAC on the road to win three games in Cleveland.

I agree with you on 3. I did not understand why Stan did not call a time out with over 9 seconds left to set up the shot and who they wanted to take it. Instead it looked like the chaos it was.

I know the pros were there to see Bates and Noah but the guy who impressed me with 5 blocks was Trey Townshed. He's a player.

Dear Friends,
I know little about the ins and outs of basketball, but would agree with Luckeyone. I know it is early in the season, but there seems to be something missing with this team. After watching the game against U-M, I thought we would at least be competitive against teams like Bradley, and would be able to defeat teams like Oakland. It's not happening. Maybe Coach Heath is not the messiah everyone thought him to be.

I think the team is missing a nastiness on defense. No shot-blockers, many uncontested 3 pointers, little presence in the paint, etc.

Hope Mo is happy riding SMUs bench.

Heath is 11-24 so far at EMU! His career coaching record is 219-231, and that includes his 30-6 record at Kent St, which he 100 percent inherited that team! He's a good recruiter, but so far his coaching at EMU is very questionable!

Actually YES! CC never had A 5 star recruit! And, Farrakhan was at one time A 5 star! Finished as A 4! 1-3 and our win versus A D2 school!

Maybe it’s me getting older and not caring about basketball as much, but I just can’t get into the non-conference games. To me, it’s all about the MAC schedule.

This team has a lot of new pieces, and a lot of “stars” that are going to have to learn how to play together. Will they be able to do so? That’s Heath’s challenge.

As someone else said, it’s all about the MAC tournament, and using the regular season to put yourself in the best position possible.

I will cautiously agree.

The MAC is a one-bid league and has been since 1999. You certainly don't play not to win but a loss to Oakland makes no difference with respect to the season objectives of winning the MAC and getting an NCAA tourney invite.

I cannot disagree with anything that Lucky posted as usual. I am, however, trusting that Heath may be employing strategies in these games more geared to evaluation than winning. Stan is an Izzo protege' who plays a brutal non-conference schedule to assess his team rather than a Boeheim candy slate. We have a whole new roster, and he is still trying to figure out what he has. The REAL season starts January 3.

At least that is what I am hoping for.
