University of Virginia shootings
Horrible news out of Charlottesville. Former football player kills several people, among them 3 current football players.

Gosh, we'll say how bad it is, then nothing will happen. Onion has us nailed as a country.

And now 4 students at University of Idaho murdered with an 'edged' weapon - possibly a knife. The gun rights folks will use this to say guns aren't the problem.

In this case a different Gun law would not have helped.
Jones was arrested last year for illegally having a concealed weapon & apparently DA and / court did nothing.
If existing laws are not enforced they are worthless.

I'm tired of that deflection. The whole country is, and I own 5 guns myself.

We need sensible gun laws, and need to enforce laws when nut jobs show themselves such as this case.

If the DA really "did nothing" he's an accessory to the fact. EOD. He was derelict in his duty to uphold the existing laws.

If the laws fell short, then they need to be addressed. This circle talk/jerk deflection is really wearing thin.

It's also against the law to kill someone. Why can't they follow that law?

Who was it that did nothing? The DA? Or the judge? And if the judge, why did the judge rule that way? Are they going outside the law to let people get away with crimes?

this article does a good job explaining:

Why the UVA murder suspect failed a background check when trying to buy a gun last year
https://www.wtvr.com/news/local-news/chr...er-16-2022

I'm a little surprised it is only a misdemeanor, see below:

Carrying a concealed weapon without a permit can be charged as a misdemeanor or felony. If convicted, a person can be punished as follows:

First offense.
A first offense is a Class 1 misdemeanor with a possible sentence of up to 12 months in jail and a fine not to exceed $2,500.

Second offense.
If this is a second offense, an individual would be charged with a Class 6 felony. If they are convicted, their punishment could include a prison sentence of one to five years and a maximum fine of $2,500.

Third offense.
A third or subsequent offense would be a Class 5 felony that carries a sentence of one to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $2,500.
