Quote:His mother, who is identified in public records as Margo Ellis, told NBC News in a phone call Monday that her son has lived with his grandmother since he was 16 and that she didn’t know of his whereabouts or what might have contributed to the shooting.

I know who might have contributed to this shooting. Maybe a biological mother who couldn't be bothered to even pretend to be a mother anymore at age 16 who doesn't know where her son is but unironically doesn't possibly know what could have contributed to this.

Terrible news.

I vividly remember the outpouring of support from the UVA community after the 4/16 tragedy at VT - despite the fierce rivalry between our schools, they are our brothers & sisters in the Commonwealth.

Who knows what the football team will want to do to close out the season, but if they decide to play the Commonwealth Cup in Blacksburg at the end of the season I hope that there's a real show of unity.

I wouldn’t be the least bit upset if they decided to cancel the rest of their season, especially since there’s not a lot left to even play for at this point. I’m sure all of the players aren’t even thinking about football right now.

If they didn't want to play out the rest of the season, I wouldn't blame them either. But if they do decide to play it out, please don't criticize them. It took me awhile to learn this, but everyone grieves differently. Some of the team might want to play the season out because it can help them have an temporary escape from their grief. Others may not want to play at all. Win, lose, or draw, I believe that UVa needs to listen to its football team on this matter.

If I had to guess, I suspect the players would want to play at least the Virginia Tech game as a way to publicly honor their fallen teammates. But you are right. It should absolutely be their decision whatever they choose.
