This is so awful. Jones was a 2018 member of the football team and in HS in Petersburg was an outstanding student. It sounds to me like some kind of personal beef, but what do I know?

Yes 1 man and 3 girls targeted knife attack that happened Sunday night. Its like the two murderers got together and decided to commit their evil at the same time.

A bit surprised to hear the team practiced on Monday. If they cancel Saturdays game, their next home game is actually against us next September.

Per Channel 29 in Charlottesville, they had a team meeting Monday morning but no practice. Coaches wanted to talk to the entire team at once and give the details that they could.

ESPN reporter lastnight used the word "practice", but he maybe was mistaken. Shocked they haven't yet canceled the game yet.

UVA just completed a press conference, moving forward on games will be decided on soon. They gave the impression that they've not practiced but have met together as a team a couple times.

This was shared over on the SBC board.

Giving the players a couple days then getting their input definitely seems like the right thing to do.

Very sad couple days. No doubt. Really puts things in perspective. Friends of friends were among the ones killed unfortunately.

Of course their next home game after Coastal this Saturday (if it is played) is against us in early September. Been waiting years to play them there. I expect a lot of Dukes and the band will be there. Will be an emotional day.

RE: UVA Shooting
This is a sad, tragic and unnecessary situation. That said, sad and tragic events happen throughout our lives, but life and responsibilities don't stop. It is typical to have to carry on and fulfill our responsibilities even in the face of heart wrenching events. There is a life lesson here, that the time for grief will always be there, but in the interim there are things that must be done. I'm not saying that a football game is ultra important, but the UVA players can benefit from playing on Saturday in ways that will affect the rest of their lives. To play is to honor the fallen, to strengthen those that are here and to persevere in the face of great tragedy. To play is not a slight to the victims or their families. It does not minimize or ignore the magnitude of the tragedy, but it is an opportunity to stand tall against evil and become stronger and better in your response to it. May the Lord bless the victims and their families, the players and the university at large. Stand tall UVA and stare down the gross injustice that has occurred and unite to make everyone a better and stronger person through your response to great adversity.

Some may disagree with me on this, but whatever decision UVA makes, it is not my business to say they did or did not make the right choice.
They will be making the choice that is right for them, and nobody else.

RE: UVA Shooting
Can't stop thinking about these young men and their families. They seemed like incredible people, I wished their stories were told long before this tragedy so we could better appreciate them while they are here. Mike Hollins is a hero to run back into that bus to try to help his friends.

Football is a dangerous sport, if not mentally prepared for the game, serious injury can occur. I hope they only play if the players and coaching staff are 100% committed to it.

I hope JMU, and all universities, honor UVA and 1 | 15 | 41 in a meaningful way, by committing the necessary resources to our students to minimize the chance of something like this happening. The shows of support in the short term are nice, thoughtful gestures but I hope systemic change can be initiated to ensure our young people get the support they need.

Completely understandable given the circumstances. I really hope that we as a program and as fans do something at the game this Saturday. Maybe we can create placards that have 1 15 41 on them in blue and orange and give them out to folks as they enter the stadium to hold them up during a moment of silence?

Very true, though sometimes a few voices prevail over what the silent majority prefer. This happens in a small family unit as often as it does for a much larger group.

I’d be shocked if the team doesn’t have a small V-Saber helmet sticker on the back of the headgear this weekend.

The manner of the murders - they were not done with a firearm - and their savagery is breathtaking. Moscow is a small, rural city and this kind of thing is shocking in a place like that. (Not that the crimes in Charlottesville are accepted or commonplace, just that it's closer to larger metro areas.) That, and the police so far haven't stated they have any suspects.

So many questions, they have no suspects but said the victims were targeted and there was no threat to the public. Some reports indicated this was a crime of passion. People were dispatched when they received a call about an unconscious individual and found these 4 victims in the house. They also said it was 4 homicides and not a murder/suicide situation. So what involvement did the unconscious individual play? Were they a potential 5 victim or actually become the 4th? After being called about the unconscious person the police showed at noon, but reports indicated the victims were likely killed hours earlier (3-4am).

100%. As much as I generally loathe UVA, that's not really about the football players. Whatever they think is right for them, I'm all for it.
