That said, the attendance number is higher for these games than they were last year. Tonight’s was about 3400, compared to 2500-2800 for similar games last year. I’m not gonna argue about what the actual attendance was, but that higher number at least suggests a higher number of season tickets I assume, which is definitely good.

I didn’t see anything wrong with the band.

He was super salty but I didn't see anything wrong with what he said. I agree our band is pretty boring, and I played in our band...

I too see the attendance trickling up from last year. It's on the team to put out a product that the masses want to see. Just getting dominated by a team that 99% of Alabamians have never heard of doesn't help that, no matter how much "talent" we supposedly have.

Our band is pretty vanilla, especially compared to some of the other university bands in the state. Nothing against the kids that play in the band or the talent they have, there just isn't a lot of showmanship or flash with what they do.

I agree with Answer on attendance. I think we had a shot to be a top 25 team if we would have kept winning up until the home game with South Carolina. I think that really could have brought a crowd. Maybe we still have an outside shot at being a top 25 team if we win out until that game, but losing to a "no name" team like Toledo won't attract the casuals.

I don't know any of them, but there's a major difference in the band depending on who the director/leader is each night. Total night-and-day. The one guy that is there most of the time plays the same old stuff over and over. The bigger guy and the woman play all kinds of stuff and its obvious they put so much more into it. Its been this way for years. Saying all that, if we could get Dora or G'dale HS to come in every night, I'd be good with that. Those HS kids rock it when they are asked to fill-in.

I’ve always thought our band has been pretty weak. I’d love to go the HBCU route and really get a rocking band that bigger, louder, and more of a show

RE: Presbyterian Blue Hose
DD - what did you think about the game last night overall? Improvement? Still doing sloppy stuff that's going to get us beat by better teams?

I really liked the improvement from Gaines last night. He is still sloppy and undisciplined, but he was all over the court last night and gave great effort for the most part. He was much less selfish and made some beautiful plays for his teammates. With the way he drives to the basket he really sucks the defense in on him hard, and he is able to find cutters or shooters that are wide open when he wants to. It seemed like he had 6 or more blocks last night, but was only credited with 3. His talent jumps off the screen at you, but unfortunately, so does his sloppiness. But if he can play more like he did last night on a consistent basis, that could go along way in unlocking this team's potential. And he missed THREE dunks last night..

I really like what I've seen from Davis, Buffen, and Jemison. They have to stay out of foul trouble. T. Brewer is giving some good minutes in relief too - he has a nice fadeaway/low point to midrange jumper.

L. Brewer needs to get it going. He is our 2nd/3rd scoring option, like Ertel or Jackson last year. We really need to work on getting him more integrated into the offense.

I feel for Gaines. When you've been given great gifts, the expectations placed on you by others (including the ones you imagine they have) are an enormous burden.

As for enlarging the crowds, maybe the Smartest AD in the History of Brain should try some marketing. If I'm not mistaken, that falls within his responsibilities.

It felt good to see the Blue Hose humiliated. I didn't realize that we could play Saint Joseph's in this tournament. I want to beat them so badly that their stupid hawk stops flapping.

RE: Presbyterian Blue Hose
According to the NCAA here are some attendance numbers from last year:

San Francisco-1,878
Saint Mary's-2,715
Toledo-4,533
Tulane-1,446
SMU-3,599
Belmont-1,996
Buffalo-2,893
Chattanooga-3,368
Charleston-4,034
Davidson-3,209
St Louis-5,517
UAB-3,228

We are not some strange outlier, this is the way college basketball, and sports in general, are trending. Goodman is just an ass and likes to pick on UAB for whatever reason. The basketball program is finally moving back in the right direction, but from Anderson to Kennedy, the team basically did nothing to grow the fan base. People don't just show up overnight, and the fans we need to up the attendance aren't going to show up for a game like Presbyterian. If we keep winning, I expect we will see an uptick in attendance all season long.

He's not wrong at all. And I feel bad because I absolutely couldn't make the game last night, so I was part of the issue.

I really feel like step 1 is student engagement. I don't give a **** if we have to embarrass ourselves and start paying kids to come & cheer like Grand Canyon. They've built a whole environment there because of it, and we really need something like that here.

Attendance took a big step back during the Ehsan years but I think we just need to do more giveaways (MARKETING) like shirts, towels, mini basketballs, bobbleheads, etc. That's how you market and bring in new folks in and if they enjoy the product they will stay and come to more games. This should be done for both basketball and football (and baseball/softball if you want more fans)

I thought the crowd was great during the Steel Mill shirt day, but it was also a huge game against UNT.

This was the giveaway they did last night:

RE: Presbyterian Blue Hose
Now as far as the band:

Lot's of former and current Blazer Band members are asking Goodman what he thinks the band needs to do. They aren't mad, they are more confused, as am I (former Blazer Band member myself).
If you are going to give criticism, at least provide constructive criticism.
Is it the uniform? I think they are returning to the striped shirts once new members receive theirs.
Is it song selection? Email the directors and give suggestions.
Most games I have gone to, the Blazer Band are the ONLY rowdy students. But as the student sections start to fill back up hopefully the students can feed off the Blazer Band's energy.

Also, is there any Gang Green leader? I think that's what is missing. They need a leader and an organizer. Print off cheers and give to the students, teach them the cheers and how to be rowdy.

I will say that this giveaway absolutely sucked. No where to be found. I got to the game a little before 6:30 and had my student ID from when I graduated a year back and there were maybe 15-20 students in the crowd with the hat or beanie on and no tables set up giving them out anywhere. Maybe it was supposed to be after the game but it was very confusing seeing so few people with it already and no where giving it out

I don't really like Goodman. I used to, especially when he went to bat for us during the shutdown, and even shined a light (some) on the BOT corruption and shenanigans.

But he is spot on in these tweets. I agree with everything he said.

Pretty sure my last year as a student (2014-15), some of the urinals in Bartow had Pumpkinhead urinal cakes. We should give those away. I understand most people probably don’t have a urinal in their house, but it’s the principle that people will enjoy.

And I do agree he’s not wrong, I just wish they guy would try to actively help UAB instead of doing this crap he does.

We do need to do whatever we can to bring more people to the games. I don’t care what it takes, getting people in there in the first place will lead to growing the fan base.
