Hopefully a game for us to work some things out from Friday night. I'd kind of like to see AK experiment with the starting lineup a little bit.

Monday and Tuesday games in Daytona Beach. That's a shame. Obviously, they're only worried about TV revenue.

Any idea why they are called the Blue Hose? That has to be one of the odder mascots/team names I've ever heard.

RE: Presbyterian Blue Hose
We had a lot of issues on Friday, and against ASU to a lesser degree.. But the most important one far and away is to start playing like a cohesive team. If I see one more forced, pressured, contested out of control mid range jumper or 3 on 1 lay up attempt by Gaines I may vomit. Jelly was doing it too, but he at least has a long track record of making those kind of shots and can blow a game wide open. He is also our best player and has proved his chops on the court. This team is super talented, deep, and experienced, even without Gaines. But he could sink the team if he turns into a diva headcase.

RE: Presbyterian Blue Hose
Other big issues that I've seen.. most stem from the lack of cohesiveness as a team, but include...

**half court defense - we gave up FIFTY FOUR points in a half and 93 total to Toledo. We are giving up 81.5 points per game overall. We let ASU score 70 on us and let their best player damn near drop a 30 piece on us. See their next game for how they fared compared to our "defense." I was told their point total and the near 30 piece weren't a big deal, but it's part of a trend now. Toledo murdered us in the 2nd half on offense. They were surgical on offense, and we looked lost the whole half. We haven't looked good on the defensive end at all this season to me. At times last year, we could shut teams down and our press and traps were deadly. This season, we are just trying to win track meets and hope we outscore the other team, because we damn sure aren't stopping them straight up..

*half court offense - do we have one? Or are we going to watch Jelly and Gaines jack up contested shots over and over all season?

*L. Brewer really needs to be integrated into the offense. He has to be our 2nd or 3rd reliable scorer.

*Our big men foul a stupid inordinately high amount. It happened all last season, in the auburn scrimmage, the exhibition game, and now our first two regular season games. I have liked what I've seen from all three of Buffen, Jemison, and Davis (especially Davis) when they are on the court, but if you can't stay in the game because you are constantly fouling people 90 ft from the basket - what does it matter?! I've never seen one player commit so many stupid fouls as Buffen does..

*Someone needs to step up in our guard rotation. It's basically Gaines and Jelly only at this point. L. Brewer, toney, bertram, butta... someone has to step up to be a consistent 3rd and 4th option..

*better shot selection and not pressing.. again, mostly a jelly and gaines problem.

I think we can fix all this, but we definitely did not hit the ground running like I expected us to. We still have a long season ahead of us, and a really good team and coach. Toledo very well may be the best team we play all season, but make no bones about it, our showing against them was U-G-L-Y.

RE: Presbyterian Blue Hose
A blue-stockinged Presbyterian is one with strong puritan values (no booze, no sex, no fun).

I interviewed for a job there (I asked them about the name, and the above is what I was told). I was asked if I had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ (which is both a professional code violation AND isn't even a Presbyterian thing as far as I know) and, obviously, did not get the job.

I hate them. I want to see the Blue Hose crushed without mercy.

I balance it with unquenchable lust.

And for the record, I only have contempt for Mark Ingram, which is not the same as hate. I reserve that for his bosses.

Presbyterian and USF SHOULD both be tune up games for a slightly tougher test in UGA. We really need to begin working out whatever kinks we have before the Georgia game because even though they're Georgia, they are still a top 100 team and probably have some decent size and athletes. A loss to them would be bad, but not at all shocking if we play like we did the second half on Friday night.

USF looked really good against Auburn. They led by nine at the half, and were tied midway through the second, before losing by 8. We’re gonna have to play well to get to Georgia. Georgia finished last year around #200 and are currently #134. Maybe they’ll be Top 100 by season end. Like us against USF, Georgia has to play decent or we’ll be meeting them in the losers game on Tuesday. I’ll be there either way but that’d sure put a damper on my trip down.

USF has good size and lots of athletes. They had Auburn on the ropes for a while but got shut down in the 2nd half. They then got beat by Stetson tonight but Stetson is actually very good this year having also beaten Florida State by double digits.

With our long and storied history of playing like absolute crap in these early season tournaments, I could easily see us going 0-2 vs. USF and our 2nd opponent. I hope I'm wrong and they've worked on their issues since Toledo! Toledo got a handful of votes in the latest top 25 polls.
