The 3rd baseman (Andre Modugno 6'-5", 195) on that IMG Academy team seems to be a great hitter and is in the same graduating class. He's also listed (#1) in the hitting charts. Maybe the coaches can work a package deal and get both of them.

Modugno is going to Duke, and would never come to ODU.

It was wishful thinking mainly because he is a teammate with Jackson Lalima - along the same lines of how ODU just offered a pair of teammates in basketball. Why would he never come to ODU? ODU has had some good players to commit. Lalima seems to be a pretty solid player. The Monarchs lost a recruit that had committed last year - to the Atlanta Braves during the MLB draft - so they obviously are able to recruit and get commitments at a high level.

Modugno has been committed to Duke since he was in 8th grade, and is the number 12 ranked player in the country.

If that's true, then it sounds like he won't end up going to Duke either.

Which is another reason why I said he wouldn't come here.

Looking forward to it. Lot of new names to get used to.

They've lost a lot of power from last year's team. I hope they have recruited some to replace a fair portion of what they lost. Maybe some of the returning players will be a pleasant surprise in that area as well. Also, I hope that Dengler can remain healthy and play a full season.

Anyone else going to the baseball banquet tonight?

Went to the banquet. It was a well run event, even if Ron Polk spoke a little too long. But I mention it because it was the first time I noticed that ODU QB Tyler Stott was also playing baseball. Pretty cool to have a two-sport athlete and hope he does well.

Not sure but they had each player introduce themselves, say their class year and their major and he was one of the guys who introduced himself.

What happened to Henry Hersum? Not on current roster. I can't find any news of a transfer. Still has ODU pics at top of his twitter page.

Ron Polk cannot speak to long. That man is a baseball coaching god. If you coach baseball and haven't read his book "The Baseball Playbook", go out and get it asap.

I'm sure it's a great book and he did have an amazing career as a coach but it was clearly a canned speech he does everywhere that went 45 minutes way too long.
