Man, terrible call that benefits Rice. Should've been a Rice TO.

The officiating has been laughably bad all game.

79-69 Rice. Shaky defense but a big basket from Fisher. I think it's pretty clear that we won't necessarily have a closing 5 this year. Hayes in the game, as is Gooden (as a second handler).

Positive fourth quarter from Jackson. Good to see her respond after a so-so three quarters. 83-72 Rice.

Should be the dagger. Beautiful hail mary inbound call, good pass from Gooden, good finish from Jackson with the foul. 86-72 Rice, 1:25 left.

Fisher is an absurdly talented rebounder for her size.

RE: WBB vs. SFA
Rice wins 89-77. Awesome start to the season against what could be a tournament team (through the WAC, not at-large). 13 TOs. Let me repeat that. 13 TOs! Against a team that tries to force 25 a game. Massive credit to Jackson and Owens-Barnett, who combined only turned it over three times. Obviously there are some defensive questions...we need to figure out our interior defense, especially against stronger posts. But that's probably the only negative, apart from Samb who looked a bit overwhelmed (though, to be fair, the type of whistle probably threw her out of rhythm).
18 points and 20 rebounds for Fisher, who was awesome. 24 minutes from Hayes and 8 points, including a couple big baskets and some really impressive defense at key points in the game. 11-11 from the FT line from Jackson, almost all of them in the 4th quarter. 14 from Bokunewicz, 12 from Ennis (in only 10 minutes). And like I've mentioned a couple times, Owens-Barnett ran the team like a junior or senior.
Swayze and Clifton didn't play. Wonder if that was a team-specific decision or they're the odd women out. If they are, hopefully we dominate in a couple games so they get some minutes.

Really fun game - man we are deep and talented. I'm not sure if our top line talent is as good as we've had in the past, but I don't know if we've ever had this deep of a squad. The three freshmen who played today were so impressive. And Fisher could easily be the player of the year in the conference. She doesn't have to do it all this year, and should really shine in her role.
Bokunewicz isn't wearing a knee brace anymore, so I think her mobility is so much better as well.

Man I watched a fun game with lots of energy. I know the ladies are working hard and they have the will to win. I was just excited to see my daughter get some playing time. I thought the entire team played great defense on a run and gun team. I was also impressed with how they were able to beat the modified press SFA was running. Great game to watch looking forward to sunday.

In my opinion, Shelby had a HUGE part in this win...she can obviously play at this level...there were a lot of bright spots and it is apparent that the freshmen are really going to add to this squad...a great way to start

She's got moves. She was also hindered by the overzealous officiating - her "charging" foul was a spin move where her leg was against the defender's leg - so she couldn't show full aggressiveness under the basket.
