CBSSN gets first pick of 18 basketball and football games
ESPN gets the rest
Midweek October football
Money just behind MAC
I guess I just don't get it. What's the point of college athletics? Mid week games will kill stadium atmospheres/attendance for these schools and alumni who live out of the area won't be able to make it to games. To me, THAT is the entire point.

...according to the ESPN dude in the article, it's all about "linear TV opportunities"... Hopefully C-USA will live long and prosper (I think they will fare better than most folk believe they will) - and now they have more TV appearances than the 'old deal', regardless of the dates... not sure if Stadium still has some rights to C-USA, but they were ok for the most part... ...as good as your typical 2nd-3rd tier ESPN broadcast/crew...

Imitation is the highest form of flattery. CUSA doing midweek games now... Are you come up with a catchy # hashtag now too? #CUSAction!!!
First there was #MACtion, the pioneers of midweek football...
then there was #Fun Belt
now we have #CUSAction!!!!
Im assuming these October midweek games are on CBSSports Net as the Sun Belt already has the October ESPN time slots. So CUSA just went from 18 Friday and Saturday broadcasts on CBSN to 18 Tuesday and Wednesday broadcasts on CBSN

Basically doubled their money. They will have a hard time getting alumni to those games. For locals and students, it will work fine. And maybe for FIU, KSU, UTEP, NMSU, SHSU, Jacksonville St. and Liberty, it will work well. WKU, MTSU, LT have a little more tradition and students don't necessarily stick around after graduation in Bowling Green, Murfreesboro and Ruston, and may be getting more alumni driving in.

I thought the Sun Belt should have changed its name to the Gulf Athletic Conference back when the WAC was still around. Your mid-week could be WACky, MACky, and GACky!

Quote:The new-look Conference USA will shift its entire slate of October football games to midweek evenings starting with the 2023 season. CUSA, which will add five new members for the 2023-24 academic year, will play most of its October league games on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, with a handful of games also planned for Thursday and Friday nights.
Guh! That's a pretty rough deal right there. 1 or 2 midweek games a year per team was what I was expecting, but man every game in October is a midweek? I hope they're getting on ESPN/ESPN 2/ABC/CBS proper for most of those cause that's a raw deal otherwise.

ESPN networks or CBSSN. ABC or CBS isn’t going to televise these games. LMAO

How is it better? Their current contract already had 18 CBSN broadcasts. EXCEPT those were on Saturdays... now the same number of games (18) on CBSN but on Tuesdays. Most of the rest on ESPN3/+
Judy traded 18 Saturday games for Tuesday games and a few extra dollars. That is all.

I have no idea how she has remained commissioner through all of this.

Guess we join the group of unwanted who play during the week.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays will be better than Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. No NFL or High School to compete with.

RE: CUSA TV Deal released
I didn't see any mention of streaming or espn3/+. Does anyone know if this deal includes streaming rights to games that aren't broadcast linearly by CBS/ESPN? Also, do any of the existing or future CUSA schools currently have local media deals in place, and does anyone know the value of any such deals? Basically I'm interested to know if there is any impact to the revenue these schools may be receiving by selling third tier rights, either now or in the future.

RE: CUSA TV Deal released
If these previous Saturday CBSSN games go to midweek, then I hope the MAC (who already has games sub-licensed to CBSSN) fills in the void left behind from the 18 previous Saturday CBSSN slots. MAC currently has 10-12 games with CBSSN per year, hopefully we now have 28 Saturday CBSSN games. So Saturday CBSSN would be MAC during the day and Mountain West in the evening. This could be a nice win for MAC TV exposure. THANKS JUDY!!!

Good summary.
What, if anything, does it say that CBS Sports Network is the primary rights holder and ESPN is second?
Also, pretty apparent Judy decided to copy the playbook from her G-5 big brothers: "Octagon (C-USA's media adviser) held up the Sun Belt and Mid-American conferences as examples of how non-Power Five leagues could adapt to alternative schedules to maximize exposure."
Curious where exactly the per school the dollar figure for 2023-2027 compares to the American, MWC, Sun Belt and MAC ...

Having CBS Sports Network and ESPN is a lot better than Stadium and Facebook. $750,000 was a little more than I even thought. Yes, have to suffer through some midweek games but that brings exposure to your programs

Amen, amen, amen.
I watch these midweek games regularly like a lot of other College Football nuts because, well, it's College Football. So I get why Judy and her peers take these deals.
But, yeah, the atmosphere at these mid-week games (especially at the G-5 level) tends to be deader than a doorknob

Didn’t cbss just paid big $ for B1G Saturday games?
What kind viewership did CUSA get on Saturday?
Might they get more midweek ?
