Which is odd since the 2022 baseball team posted the highest average GPA for a Rice baseball team ever.

I wonder if pre-med Biology as a major at Rice is a little more challenging than Industrial Services major at UTEP...just asking for a friend?

Really disappointing. This may be a first, and not a good kind.
Our Visual Studies majors aren’t on the All-Academic team? That’s a shame. What a travesty!

Not to denigrate any majors, but there are several kinesiology and sports management majors on the team, so not all biology etc
Of course one can wonder how strictly enforced actually going to class may be at some schools

RE: Volleyball @ WKU (Thursday night)
As heartbreaking as Thursday night's loss was we can ill-afford to let it carryover into this MORNING's match (11:00am start) at MTSU. MTSU are not very good, but they're not awful either as they actually come in with a winning record (15-12). We need to rebound strongly to regain our confidence heading into the conference tournament starting on Wednesday.

RE: Volleyball @ WKU (Thursday night)
Not a particularly positive showing to end the regular season. Yes, we swept, but MTSU hit almost .300 against us and scored 18, 26 and 23 in the 3 very tight sets. The high frequency of blocks against our offensive attacks is becoming an alarming pattern. It's one thing for WKU to average almost 4 blocks/set against us, but for MTSU to average over 3 blocks/set against us is certainly a concern heading into the post-season. Thankfully, Adekunle (15 kills, .542, 5 blocks) and Bichelmeyer (15 kills, .357, 3 blocks) both had strong games, but Courtley (4 kills, 3 errors, .071) was so bad that Genny benched her in the 3rd set.
Let's get a couple good days of practice under our belts, regroup and heighten our focus heading into the conference tournament.

lol. We beat Creighton, yet Creighton stays just ahead of us. WKU beats us by the narrowest of margins and they not only move past us, but move up two slots.

RE: Volleyball @ WKU (Thursday night)
There are essentially 4 hosting spots available. 1 of those will most likely go to Creighton or Marquette.
They could potentially both host.
So then you have 2 or 3 spots left. Baylor has the best chance as does the "loser" of Creighton and Marquette.
That leaves 1 or 2 spots for the following teams: UCF, Rice, Houston, Penn State (mainly based on reputation), and Georgia Tech.
If Houston beats UCF again then I think they get a spot. But if UCF wins and forces a split, then anything can happen. Rice does have the head to head over Houston. If Rice wins the CUSA then should be in. If they lose, then I think we are out of hosting.

??? Where's WKU? They beat Rice a second time and their RPI will be in range.. We're definitely out of hosting if we lose, and now unlikely even if we win the tourney. UH is well positioned since they've now won 18 straight. If they run the table they're almost certainly hosting....and there is no way UH and Rice both host. Similarly, Creighton hasn't lost since we beat them way back when. I think they're a lock regardless.
Unless Baylor loses another match outside of the Big12 championship vs. UT, they're in. Despite a lower RPI, their resume is better than any other team you've listed-- including Creighton and Marquette. The question is would the committee ever have 3 Texas programs hosting?
Finally, I think you're forgetting Kentucky, unless you're assuming they're a lock. They're currently #10 RPI.

WKU's RPI is out of range as of today. If they win the tournament with a win over Rice then they are on the bubble. But their SOS is hurting them and don't see them as a host even if they win the tournament. The other teams listed have better resumes. I put Kentucky as one of the 12 locked hosts.
Texas had 3 hosts when we went to A&M, with Baylor and Texas also hosting. Question is, would they give Texas 4 hosts?

I doubt they'd send one of the strongest #2 seeds to face the #1 overall seed.

Just as a reminder. They are ranking the top 32 teams this year.
Quote:So now instead of seeding just the top 16 teams, the committee will seed the top 32 teams on a national basis, across eight seed lines. The top 16 seeds will still host a regional and the top four will still host a super if given the opportunity. Seeds one-four will be one seeds, five-eight will be two seeds, nine-12 will be three seeds, etc. Teams seeded No. 17-32 will be the five, six, seven and eight seeds.
To create more competitive parity, the eight seeds will need to travel to one of the four one seeds. Seven seeds will have to play at one of the two seeds, etc. The remaining 32 teams will be placed in the bracket following bracketing policies approved by the NCAA Division I Competition Oversight Committee. The 16 first-and second-round winners will feed into four regions. When pairing teams, the committee will avoid conference matchups in the first and second rounds of the championship.
Depending on the conference tournament, Rice will be a 4 or 5 seed. There's a chance that Rice drops to a 6 seed depending on how other teams do, but can't see them falling to an 8-seed. So basically no chance that Rice would be sent to Texas.
