Lost to FGCU ? really ???? seems like the program is headed in the wrong direction and fast.

I won't pretend to watch a ton of womens basketball, but they finished last year in the top 20 and have 4 out of the last 5 seasons in the top 25. They were 30-3 and advanced to the round of 32. They are ranked as the 2nd best mid major.

Although the final score looks disappointing, it's way too early, in my opinion, to create that narrative. Just so we don't forget, we have a whole bunch of transfers into the program and if by mid season they still appear to be finding out how to play with each other and in that process losing games they should be winning, I may hop onto your bandwagon then, but for now, let's give them time.

They also leapfrogged pretty much every other mid major. What they’ve done is impressive but let’s not make this out to be only an ODU problem when the team has been trending in the right direction the last few years.

Give me a reason to be excited about the present. I dont expect top 10, or final four caliber teams any more, I'd be more than happy with top 25 womens basketball teams. It doesnt bug you to see the likes of FGCU in the top 20 for womens hoops, and Liberty in the top 25 for football, but no ODU?

They also leapfrogged pretty much every other mid major. What they’ve done is impressive but let’s not make this out to be only an ODU problem when the team has been trending in the right direction the last few years.

This is a fair point. Hope we continue to trend upward.

No, it doesn't bug me. Liberty being a private school with more money/facilities/aspirations than we have at this stage of our existence occasionally saddens and depresses me, but we went a long time without football and, once we got it, crappy facilities until recently. And still we are behind. We also have the type of fan base that thinks it's more important to throw down a $1 beer in the BB Room for MBB and wander back 5 minutes into the second half, or come into the football game midway through the first quarter, than to be there for our teams. THAT bugs me.

As far as women's hoops is concerned, once UConn and Georgia and South Carolina and UNC and UMD and UVA started throwing mega bucks into their programs, and controlling the polls, our days regularly in the top 25 were done.

Hell, the system is so rigged that we can't get a very fine FH team on the NCAAs.

So I'll go and root and contribute $$, confident that the sky isn't falling and that the people I know in the AD are doing the very best job they can. Perhaps the university you work for, that does so many more things right than ODU on every level, is the exception to my little rule.

That said, I know you care and that's important.

I saw a very athletic, Passionate, solid Lady Monarch Basketball Team. They didn't play as well as they will, so please don't count them out after 1 game.

Just about every time we trapped we were able to turn them over, so I suspect we'll see more of that going forward, and hopefully earlier in the game. This group will feed off the trap and everything else is better when the trap/press is successful.

They will set better screens, defend the 3 pt shot better, take better care of the basketball and make the 4 or 5 bunnies we missed right at the rim. Loved seeing us make 15 of 19 from the line, and 5 of 12 from 3 - not bad ladies.

This team is gonna be just fine; they have too much talent not to be, and a HOF Coach. Thus, The Upside is HUGE

I would like to invite all of you out to support this team when you can. They will appreciate it and believe me, you won't be disappointed.

A lot of new pieces, let's not throw out the baby with the bathwater yet. This team needs some time to gell.

Agree 100%. FGCU is a solid team, and it’s early in the season. Expectations of top-25 team is unrealistic for the near future. However, I’m very optimistic with them in league play.

I wasn’t able to see the entire game, but I did see enough to draw a couple of observations: 1) The Monarch have a lot of new players and were playing a very well seasoned team. 2) The guards need to learn to share the ball. Guards took 33 of the 57 shots the Monarchs took. It was a either a problem of the “bugs” not presenting themselves well or the guards not running the offense efficiently. 3) The team will get better. They just need time.
